Well not sure what the cause was/is but I just experienced a hard lock while emerging wxGTK and open 'Preferences' in FF3. nothing else of importance to speak of.

you enabled all of the locking-tests?

Code:
CONFIG_DETECT_SOFTLOCKUP=y
CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK=y
CONFIG_DEBUG_LOCK_ALLOC=y
CONFIG_PROVE_LOCKING=y
CONFIG_LOCKDEP=y
...
CONFIG_DEBUG_LOCKING_API_SELFTESTS=y

Quote:
[*] Debug preemptible kernel
[*] RT Mutex debugging, deadlock detection
[ ] Built-in scriptable tester for rt-mutexes
-*- Spinlock and rw-lock debugging: basic checks
-*- Mutex debugging: basic checks
-*- Lock debugging: detect incorrect freeing of live locks
[*] Lock debugging: prove locking correctness

should be the least, afaik ...

also make sure magic sysrq key is compiled in / enabled:

Code:
CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ=y

Hi !

I've got an issue with 2.6.26-rc* - my video card, based on saa7134 chip, doesn't work :(
(In 2.6.25 it's working perfectly, and I'm using .config from 2.6.25 - (of course, I've checked everything related to Multimedia devices in menuconfig))
Here's dmesg output:
Code:
saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.14 loaded

and /etc/conf.d/modules
Code:

If it's kernel issue - where should I post a bug ? :)

Thx and greets ! :)

Could you people who are testing lockless also tell us what arch are you using? it *might* be arch related.

For those of you that have experienced hardlocks with lockless, I applied some patches which I think may have fixed the hardlocks.... pull from git and give it a test please!

ok, I was happy too early !

openoffice keeps on crashing :P :evil:

WHY NOW ?

in earlier zen-sources releases openoffice and all other apps worked well,

last time I had this kind of problems was with 2.6.17* kernels + lockless pagecache, afaik :(

so it's taking a big step backwards ???

edit:

could anyone of you please test either openoffice-bin or openoffice with latest zen-sources from repository just to make sure that it's the kernel causing this problems,

thanks :)

I pulled this AM and am currently running ~amd64. I also added the kernel options KernelofTruth suggested (although I am not what they do, reading up on them now).

I used OO yesterday with out any issue but it was small files and sporadic use, I'll try more today.

EDIT: I use compiled OO 2.4.1.5.

I just noticed this message this AM while compiling:

Code:
fatal: cannot describe 'a3703dd944abc116109c801891639a64dee30bf0'

Not sure what it means, I feel a live and healthy so does my kernel. ;)

fine by me, not sure it is worth the hassle just yet.

EDIT: Axe it! Just as I hit submit on that I hardlocked. I was compiling xulrunner w/ FF3 open and 4 terms in xfce's Terminal.

How can I disable it, as I wont be able to 'git-pull' for another 6 hours :cry:

well, I only put it in for testing purposes because it is very nice when it does work, but I didnt make a release with it because I knew it was prone to failing, thanks for testing everyone

... probably will wait for another version of the patches to test it again

change directory to the repository, then

git checkout v2.6.26-rc6-zen1-hotfix2

(this version should be safe afaik)

then copy over the folder to /usr/src/, change directory to it and compile the kernel

i already reset the master to the commit before i pushed lockless, then i cleaned up the reser4-new branch and merged that into master so the current HEAD should be more recent than that hotfix version and "working"

*hint* he has no internet access *hint*, so he has to use, what's there locally ;)

I just managed to boot into the old kernel (nvidia-drivers made some trouble) & openoffice still crashes so lockless pagecache is fine - at least for me :idea:

well it has caused hardlocks for the other 80% of us....

.... if you guys all like crazy patchsets, I was thinking about making a branch (or maybe a different repo) of zen based on -mm or linux-next or something

I wouldn't call lockless pagecache + reiser4 crazy since that's the only additional stuff I *really* need,

lockless used to work with 2.6.25-zen0 / zen1, I don't know where you got that version from - I experienced some hardlocks (very seldom) from time to time but it worked :roll:

this time it seems to be worse ...

having another branch or zen-sources with lockless would be great, it however seems to be (still ?) too early given it's unstable nature :(
I also don't have that much time anymore, just setting up & updating the system to gcc-4.3 and helping out a little @hardened toolchain,

and looking for a fast + stable new kernel as possible - after that I'll leave the system where it is ...

thanks :)

Hmmmm crazy patch branch?! tempting......

It seems to me I only experience issues with lockless when I am emerging something. Hasn't happen when i am just compiling the kernel.
