I figured that I should post this in this section since it seems to be unsupported. I don't want to complain or "make one day requests", I'm just curious of the nature of this. So now to it: Why isn't the Compiz package updated when new (development) releases come out? Are the maintainers just waiting for a stable release?

I have not tried the development releases, since I'm running the version from portage, so I have to ask: Are the dev releases to unstable to take into the ~arch branch?

I know I can get it from overloaded repositories, etc, but I'm just wondering why it isn't making it into the main unstable branch, or as a masked package.

Cheers!

EDIT: Sorry if this has been asked before! I searched but could not find any threads about it.

The portage main tree is for stable packages. Nothing is added that is a developer release because that's not for general use.

There are a number of overlays that work with developer packages (compiz can be found in the desktop overlay).

When a package makes a stable release it's added to the tree as testing. When the release goes 30 days without a bug report (in theory) then it's marked stable in the tree.

Cool thanks! So I just have to wait for Compiz to actually make a stable release. It's a shame that the development speed seems to have slowed down a bit on the project.

The reason was that 0.7.0, at least, depended on a live repository for one particular piece of software. I can't remember which, it was stated in the version bump tracker ticket.

Edit: Was .0, not .4

Just to let everyone know that compiz-fusion-0.7.6 has been added to the v0.7.6

After some testing it will be merged to the main branch.
