Just a fast post:

2.6.27-rc1-zenmm0-01731-g7967c49 is running really well as well as my go to -zenmm 2.6.26-rc8-zenmm3.

Will CONFIG_FASTBOOT make it into -zenmm?

CONFIG_FASTBOOT is in linux-next

which is in mm...

I just tried to enable ext4 in zenmm to see how it works and the compile dies here:
Code:

  CC      fs/ext4/symlink.o
  CC      fs/ext4/hash.o
  CC      fs/ext4/resize.o
  CC      fs/ext4/extents.o
fs/ext4/extents.c: In function 'ext4_ext_search_right':
fs/ext4/extents.c:1131: warning: 'ix' may be used uninitialized in this function
  CC      fs/ext4/ext4_jbd2.o
  CC      fs/ext4/migrate.o
  CC      fs/ext4/mballoc.o
  CC      fs/ext4/defrag.o
fs/ext4/defrag.c: In function 'ext4_defrag_ioctl':
fs/ext4/defrag.c:677: error: 'struct task_struct' has no member named 'fsuid'
fs/ext4/defrag.c: In function 'ext4_defrag_alloc_blocks':
fs/ext4/defrag.c:1388: error: implicit declaration of function 'ext4_ext_calc_credits_for_insert'
make[2]: *** [fs/ext4/defrag.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [fs/ext4] Error 2
make: *** [fs] Error 2

I think I read some that the defrag routine wasnt ready for prime time yet, but wasnt sure if I was missing something.

yes, I fixed that one (the struct task_struct ->fsuid) by pointing it to current->cred->fsuid (as that bit is different in mm) and that fixes it. However I run into the next error, namely ext4_ext_calc_credits_for_insert not being defined and so far I've not been able to find it either. I'll check the patchsets to see whether there's anything in there.

If I find anything I'll post here.

Regards,
Jan

not able to get a diff with v2.6.27, I hosted a tgz with the whole fresh git tree here (as a good base for new future pulls :) )

Totally phazed out the zen-sources eclass in favor of kernel-zen.eclass (An eclass to make basic defines for kernel-2, defines for ebuild, and defines depending on variant of zen kernel) which in the end inherits kernel-2 which is just how i wanted it.

It makes things a lot easier to maintain, and we don't have these stupid hotfix names (-r20, -r11, etc)

also, 2.6.27-zen2 and 2.6.27-zenmm1 (BBS!!!!!!!) added to zen overlay ;)

*Also*

zenmm compiles with allyesconfig

I was hoping you tell me :)
I used ebuild from zen-overlay for a stable .27 version. There's no reiser4 in menuconfig, I also checked that reiser4 is missing from "fs" subdirectory in kernel tree. There's only reiserfs, hence my question.

I just recompiled -zenmm and when I booted I get this:

Code:

Oct 24 14:01:41 cosmo modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.27-zenmm1-00799-gf02c74c-dirty/modules.dep: No such file or directory

Now when I check /lib/modules I only have a dir that is named 2.6.27-zenmm1-00799-gf02c74c not '2.6.27-zenmm1-00799-gf02c74c-dirty'.

I do have this set
Code:

You told me your own problem. There is no -dirty directory. I have no idea why that configuration option does that, but it does none the less and the only solution I know of that works is to disable it (and just accept the name 2.6.27-zenmm1 instead of the additional -****)

ah, good to know that this option causes this kind of behavior,

I've already encountered this several times & "fixed" it in a kind of hackish way by creating a symbolic link to the dirty / non-dirty directory

thanks

That's what I did to get in functioning correctly. It was just odd becuase I have had that option set for sometime now and never had any issues even with *-dirty kernel release. Not a big deal really. Thanks.

OT - @cheater can I use your install guide for x86_64 instead of x86?

My guide really needs an update before it can be considered for use again.

I have to assume that the .28 kernels are radically different animals(both -mm and regular) from the .27s, because they are giving me hassles. I pulled 2.6.28-rc2-zenmm1, I compiled and booted. All the modules loaded but the HDAPS error about no blk_freeze entry was thrown.

Even odder, hald wont start(and of course networkmanager wont either due to hald not starting).

It finally finishes the init process and drops to a log in prompt. I put my user name in hit 'enter' and nothing. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del out. As it starts to shutdown, it stops while trying to unload ALSA modules but pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del a few times gets it going.

It finally finishes but doesnt completely shut the laptop down, I have to hold the Power Button down until it goes off.

Not sure if I made a mistake in my config or I am just missing something. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

it's broken with prepare_write/commit_write being removed so it doesn't work.

Although, Edward says we can supply null to the vfs parameters as a temporary fixup (not a great fixup, but works for now), so i pushed that fix.
