Even in KDE 3 but now also in KDE 4.0 and 4.1 I have no hibernate options in the KDE Quit menu. I am using the standard gentoo kernel (2.6.25) and using 'hibernate --force' works perfect from the console as root (even from konsole within KDE). Note that I have to use --force because the nvidia drivers refuse to unload but they come back fine after resume.

I have the impression that the current hibernate is in fact suspend as its lightning fast - which is fine with me as its my normal computer.

But how do I get KDE to notice these options without switching to the suspend2 sources? I kinda like the current kernel I have as its fast and has no issues...

Who said you are going to have that option if you switch to tuxonice-sources? I think you need to apply a patch in order to have that menu option. I saw one maybe a year or two ago on kde-look.org, you could check there.

That would be strange as I'm sure the KDE people have support for hibernate and suspend. Last time it took a recompile to get that stuff working...
