Hello folks,

I have a board that is equipped with mpc7447/7448 and uses Gentoo with kernel 2.6.9.

I am facing a problem on loading a network module driver using modprobe command. The network module is using local PCI that runs at 33 MHz. Once I run this command, the board hangs and I see the following on the dmesg. By pressing ctrl+c, I can go back to bash prompt. I typed dmesg to check if any error msgs were posted and I found this signle msg:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
wanxxxx: $Release: WANxxxxx_x_xx, Copyright (c) 2007 vendor name$
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, on other Linux 2.6.9 x86 based systems, I get the following upon successul load:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
wanxxxx: $Release: WANxxxxx_x_xx, Copyright (c) 2007 vendor name$
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:04.0[A] -> GSI 10 (level, low) -> IRQ 10
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:04.1[B] -> GSI 3 (level, low) -> IRQ 3
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:02:04.1 to 64
divert: not allocating divert_blk for non-ethernet device wan256-0
wanxxxx-0: wanPTMC-256T3 <T1> S/N E91544, MUSYCC Rev 0C
wanxxxx-0: MUSYCC at v/p=d0480000/e8000000 (02:04.0) irq 10
wanxxxx-0: EBUS at v/p=d0600000/e8100000 (02:04.1) irq 3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could it be the problem in an interrupt handling, or is it a PPC problem ? Did anybody face a similar case on loading such drivers on PPC platform? Any help would be appreciated

i don´t see any problem in the log you posted ( although i´m not an expert of course). Is upgrading / rebuilding the kernel an alternative ? If the answer is yes, try running a more modern kernel or try to build the module in the kernel ( in case it ships with the stock kernel).
Does the modules have any debugging features and do you haver kernel debugging enabled ? Maybe that can bring some light to this.

hope this helps a bit ....

cheers
