[OT]
Try mount iso image from reiser4 cryptocompress, I tested it: 701M iso image (mount -o loop): R4+lzo1 = 15s, R4 = <1s, ReiserFS = <1s
Imho Cryptocompress is good only for small files.

Hi all,

With rc5-zen1&2 I hit the following compile error:

Code:

  CC      fs/ext3/balloc.o
  CC      fs/ext3/bitmap.o
  CC      fs/ext3/dir.o
  CC      fs/ext3/file.o
  CC      fs/ext3/fsync.o
  CC      fs/ext3/ialloc.o
  CC      fs/ext3/inode.o
  CC      fs/ext3/ioctl.o
  CC      fs/ext3/namei.o
  CC      fs/ext3/super.o
fs/ext3/super.c: In function 'ext3_put_super':
fs/ext3/super.c:396: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
make[2]: *** [fs/ext3/super.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [fs/ext3] Error 2
make: *** [fs] Error 2

???

EDIT:

PS: Does anyone know the status on ext4:delalloc?

just gave it a try, still same error, here my .config

i already thought sth like that because i didnt believe there are people out there, making a kernel available w/o ext3 working, as it is IMO one of the most used fs's. but i didnt know where and what to search for.

I did try both with an old and a clean config (make clean + mrproper in between) with the same result. And if it's a certain combination of options I won't know where to begin because the error message doesn't mean anything to me :( .

I searched bugzilla.kernel.org but didn't find anything relating to this error, so it seems to be zen related...

Ohw and again: Does anyone know if ext4:delalloc is safe allready?

ext3 wasn't compiling in zen git for a period of a couple of days.

However, it does compile now (yes, the exact same error), so please don't tell me about problems that have already been fixed

It goes without saying that one sync's the overlay just before compiling and reporting a bug. Which is exactly what I did TWICE! And I'm one of those Gentoo users who almost never posts when having a problem, because first I search the web and read through relevant threads in order to solve the problem without spamming threads or unnecessarily bothering devs. In this case I didn't find any leads, not even a relevant commit to the zen-sources git tree.

SO NO NEED TO FLAME... :?

Right, getting that off my chest leaves me to say thanks anyway Cheater for your contributions to zen and your excellent install guide. Just be a little nice to the community

EDIT:

For all others with the same problem:

Just clone the git tree from scratch and it will compile fine.

please dont encourage re-cloning of the repo, usually a 'rm -rf *; git reset --hard' will fix any compile issues

Code:
rm -rf * && git reset --hard
Checking out files: 100% (25068/25068), done.

i tried above one but still getting the same error.... does "rm -rf * && git reset --hard" the same like a re-cloning but w/o choking the server?

come on guys,

why don't you read the howto / instruction on the first page of this thread

try out:

Code:
git reset --hard; git branch -M master master-old; git checkout -b master origin/master; git branch -D master-old; git checkout -f

first after the above posted command doesn't work you're allowed to re-clone the repository :P

BUT please do it the correct bandwith-saving way:

speeding up merge (download) of zen-sources (during first time)
1) checkout the linux-2.6 branch of linus (git.eu.kernel.org or git.kernel.org)

Code:
git clone git://git.eu.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git

or

Code:
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git

2) then merge both (e.g. it's in /usr/src/sources/linux-2.6)
Code:
 git clone --reference /usr/src/sources/linux-2.6/ git://zen-sources.org/zen/kernel.git

Code:

git reset --hard; git branch -M master master-old; git checkout -b master origin/master; git branch -D master-old; git checkout -f

This has saved me so many times I got tired of typing it so i made a git_reset.sh and the minute the repo looks at me funny I do a ./git_reset.sh!

On another note is anyone using ext4 on an IMPORTANT partition?(/home)? I was thinking of giving it a try and feed backabout ext4 and -zen-mm or -zen would be great thanks.

PS - Im too chicken to use reiser4, reiser3 was never very good to me. ;)

I guess it works ok for him:

But he is the dev after all. ;)

yeah, I was meaning that

if you ask me I'd only test it on / (root) and leave it away from my precious data (/home, etc.), if you have a backup-job twice a day or on every evening you should be save, too

before that create a stage4-tarball to be ready if the big data loss occurs ;) (let's hope not)

good luck :)

E2fsprogs-9999 fail to compile from zen-overlay. It looks like the code around e2fsprogs-1.40.5-libintl.patch has changed and it fails to apply. It is sufficient to aply the patch manually and re-diff it to make e2fsprogs compile.
