drm_redhat is for radeon, you will need drm_vanilla for i915.

BTW: drm_vanilla compiled fine here with i915 driver and modesetting enabled.

Ampheus: only latest git will build cause those changes that we made were after .28-rc4-zen1

The motherboard of the server is not usable anymore, and milobit (The owner of the server) needs to buy a new mobo first, then zen-sources.org will be on again.

I do not want to speak on behalf of all of us, but if each one of the zen-fans here donate a small amount of money we can easily solve the money issue. If the money for buying the motherboard is the only problem of course.

Here is a new zen patch:

http://omploader.org/veTVl (2.6.28-rc6-zen1.patch.lzma)

Basically the same as rc4 except a version bump, tuxonice update, no modesetting (i don't use it, and you can't simply rebase it for some reason), and a squashfs update. Also no nilfs2 this time (i dont think anyone uses it)

EDIT:

Upgrade patch for the rc4 patch we had

http://omploader.org/veTVq (2.6.28-rc4-zen1-TO-2.6.28-rc6-zen1.patch.lzma) - applies over 2.6.28-rc4-zen1

Hi.

1. Is there at least some documentation about the ZEN tuneables?
2. Is there a way to find out about some kind of final/stable zen-releases (e.g. the last and final on 2.6.27 kernel)

THX

in case you haven't noticed the server's down

have a look at the gentoo-wiki.com's archives: http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/Zen-sources

Hi.

My kernel (latest tarball+patch2.6.28-rc4-zen1-TO-2.6.28-rc6-zen1.patch.lzma )won't compile:

Code:

 LD      net/built-in.o

  MODPOST vmlinux.o
WARNING: modpost: Found 3 section mismatch(es).
To see full details build your kernel with:
'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y'
  GEN     .version
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  UPD     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      init/version.o
  LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
block/built-in.o: In function `vr_choose_request':

/usr/src/zen-sources/block/vr-iosched.c:275: undefined reference to `__udivdi3'
make[1]: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

Any ideas?

safe your kernel-config, make clean mrproper,
then copy your config over again and deselect the vr ioscheduler and re-compile it

simply deselecting it and re-compiling the difference won't suffice - I believe

1. Yep I noticed the the server is down since a while. This is why I installed the tarball and the patch.

2. I looked through the Wiki. I can't find any description of the Zen-Tuneables modules and sysfs parameters.
Some of them are of course kind of self-explaining.
However I would really like to see some background info, such as what benefits are expected from doing this and that.
The only reference application mentioned is speeding up X. How about audio/multimedia/gaming? Has anybody proofed/experienced lately
that the tunables do make things better than CFS standard?

THX

You do not have gentoo (i'm a wizard), i am willing to guess you have ubuntu.

That is not a zen-sources problem, it is a glibc problem. I answered this before, you are probably missing a distribution package (related to libc), or ubuntu's libc is incomplete.

Hi there.

@KernelOfTruth: THX for your support. disabling vr ioscheduler did the trick.

@cheater1034:
Yep - I am an Ubuntu-Studio guy. My focus is more on the applications than on the kernel.
I really appreciate the user friendliness and pre integration of Ubuntu. (Though there are still enough
Linux related problems left, keeping me busy all the time)

Would be nice to see a Gentoo "Studio"/"Multimedia" package. Perhaps that would make
me think about switching over. ;)

The final thing related to ZEN is now to get the fglrx worlking. This is really PITA.
The dkms and fglrx has always been an issue under Ubuntu.
However, recently they introduced an autoinstall routine for dkms/fglrx. If you switch Ubuntu-kernels now a script
autoinstalls fglrx. I havn't figured out yet how they are doing it.
Something similar would be also needed for Alsa, since Alsa is kept as a module within Ubuntu.

Again THX.

Reiser4 update for the new zen, should apply over rc4 too.

http://omploader.org/veWQ2 (reiser4-update.diff)

Implements write_begin/write_end, fixes support for loop devices
