Note: I have now solved this issue.
I have a PowerBook G3 Pismo and my 2008.0 Universal Install CD won't boot.

I put the CD in the machine, and hold down the C key to get it to boot. OK.
I press enter at the prompt boot:. Here is what the response is:
Code:
Please wait, loading kernel...
   Elf64 kernel loaded...
Loading ramdisk...
ramdisk loaded at 01e00000, size: 3562 Kbytes

DEFAULT CATCH!, code=700 at   %SRR0: 01407400   %SRR1: 00083030

Welcome to Open Firmware
To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return.
To shut down, type "shut-down" and press return.

 ok

At this point I get prompted to type either mac-boot or shut-down.

Herein lies the problem. Whenever I type mac-boot, this is what I get:
Code:
DEFAULT CATCH!, code=300 at   %SRR0: ff80b320   %SRR1: 0000b030
 ok

And on and on, until I type shut-down.

Now, I did look everywhere I thought the information could be (I even went on IRC, but no-one offered help). I'd be very annoyed if I had to burn a different CD, but if there is no other choice, I would.

One more thing: I did do an MD5 check to make sure the ISO wasn't corrupted before doing anything else to the ISO, so it isn't that.

that´s probably your poblem, the G3 isn´t a 64 bit processor, is it ? ;)
I haven´t yet used the 2008 livecd but someone here mentioned that the right kernel for you to boot is called ppc32, type that on the boot prompt, press enter and hopefully you will have a working environment.

cheers

I'll try that later, I can't get to my laptop right now. I'll let you know what happens.

Thank you for the information! I guess the CD assumes a 64-bit PPC chip. Now I can go on to the rest of the installation.
