Hi,

This is about a iBook G4 800Mhz where gentoo used to work very well for almost 4 years.

I just emerge -puDv world after 7 months. 360 packages were updated, it took 3 days of compiling.

After all these updates, I know have a problem with X:

When X start, the screen goes from black to white progressively, giving me this impression it is going to explode. Then KDE starts correctly.

Second problem is that the mouse pointer is now badly rendered: if the cursor was inside a square box, it's like a vertical rectangle a few pixels wide on the left side is actually rendered on the right side.

My xorg.conf hasn't changed.

I have xorg-server 1.3.0.0-r6

Also, in KDE, alt+tab display the box with the list of app but does not switch to the app unless I hit the Return key (kde 3.5.9).

Thanks for your help.

Edit: the solution for the ALT+TAB pb is there https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-470041-highlight-.html I had the problem before and solved it. Still this mouse cursor thing is annoying.

The iBook has a Radeon 9200 so I use the radeon driver.

I could solve the cursor issue by adding:

Option "SWcursor" "1" in the video card device section.

I hate it when an upgrade does not take care of these necessary new options automatically.

Last issue to address: why is the display looking like it is going to blow up when X starts.

This is a bug in the xserver. It was fixed after 1.3 was released. Updating to 1.4 will fix the problem for you.

I have the same problem and the same ibook;
"SWcursor" "1" solve the pointer issue, but unfortunatley give me other problems with compiz :(

be careful with this.
xorg-server-1.4* and some dependencys are still ~ppc masked, some other packages (as xf86-video-ati and xf86-input-mouse) have not been automatically rebuildet by portage.
I run into bigger Problems after the Upgrade then a strange mouse pointer rendering. I stuck with synaptics for my touchpad and i downgraded to xorg-server-1.3 again.
