Upon trying to activate maple12, I receive the error "Missing host ID for license server".

Does anyone know a way to resolve this issue? :(

The maple site doesn't have a solution.

Hi,

Where did you get maple? Did you receive a license as well? Or does your university (or whoever) provide a license server? And how did you set it up? You have to say Maple where it can find the license or license server. Somewhere must be a README file which should say how you set this up :D

And have you tried to start maple from the console? This often provides you with more information :D

I got it off the university site, where you can download a CD image and they provide a registration key (license as single user). I don't know if it is just trying to read the hostid off of eth0 instead of eth1 (my best guess), or what else... but I get that error each time.

I know I'm not the only one - someone posted the same problem on the Ubuntu forums a year ago. Unfortunately the thread stops before anyone suggests anything.

Did you try to run maple from the console to see if you get more information? Did you set it up by yourself or did you follow the instructions given by your university?

The instrutions given by the university amounted to
1. log in + download the zip file
2. unpack
3. run the install script

maple from console says: Maple initialization error, The license manager file, /home/rlw/maple12/license/license.dat, does not exist, or could not be opened.

I guess you received a file called license.dat from your uni, didn't you? Have you put this file in /home/rlw/maple12/license/? And check if the correct rights are set.

From what I gather, when you run the activation script and provide the key (which the university gave me), I should be able to download the license.dat. But it is this activation script which fails with the message "Missing host ID for license server"

I have got a simmilar error with Maple12 on a ~amd64 system without 32bit compatibility
libs upon maple execution:

Code:
Maple initialization error, invalid license return code

On a similar gentoo system with the 32bit libraries everything runs fine

In my case, I have placed the provided licence file provided by my university at the right
place. However, I'm wondering why the hostid.txt file is empty, I think it should contain
the MAC of my ethernet-card. For some reasons the installation script wasn't able to
determine it and I think still is :(

Any help would be apreciated =)

Bye ph03

Edit: One more thing: when I try to start xmaple or the "activation" script normally
the following error is issued:

Code:
Unable to determine the Host ID of this system.  Please contact Maplesoft Support.
