Hi there,

every year or so I stumble upon a problem that I can't get behind. This time its PCmanFM and it's gamin usage (or so I guess). I searched around google and these Forums for a bit and couldn't find anything at least seemingly related, hence the new thread.
I'm using the ebuild from here, meaning I have PCManFM 0.5 installed by as close to official means as possible (no custom ebuild or other nasty stuff). Also I use PCmanFM within a full gnome environment on a ~x86 system.

So whenever I delete/rename/move a file or folder from within PCmanFM the folder view just remains in its previous view. Even pressing F5 or clicking 'refresh' from the 'view' menu doesn't do the trick. What does work is leaving the folder and returning to it. Then, and only then my view gets updated to the current state of folder contents. Since there have been some bugs regarding fam integration in PCmanFM I thought it likely to assume this problem related to gamin on my system. But as far as I can judge everything gamin is correctly set up. Not that there was much to set up with it.
Funny enough when I create a new file, PCmanFM correctly updates its view. So 'maybe' it's just a missing call to gamin methods after performing other actions, but I'm far from being enough of a programmer to see that.

I'd be glad if anyone had an idea since this is driving me crazy. For the time being I reverted to Nautilus, but that's no permanent solution since I usually need an FM for some quick filemanagement. And that FM has to be up on a keystroke. Waiting >3 secs for Nautilus to start everytime I hit my keys is no fun at all.

If the 0.5 version from portage doesn't work for you, try the live svn ebuild in lxde overlay. A snapshot from current svn should arrive in portage soonish. :)

i thought gamin uses inotify? if so, pcmanfm has inotify support which can be enabled though the configure script, however it is disabled by default because its buggy (and thats in the live version) so maybe you just cant use gamin with pcmanfm yet

Now running the portage version. No change to the subject I'm afraid.

Although I don't understand every word you're saying, I know that ubuntu has it working like charm. So it is possible.
Do all the other guys here who use pcmanfm use hal? I can't imagine that.
