Well, had I not had to go out to get car parts, in a junkyard, in the rain, I'd have remembered that Saturday was the One Year Anniversary for Pappy's Kernel Seeds. But I didn't. So, it's now a year and a day since I went on line with this project.

I want to thank the following for their assistance, support, and belief in my project: Donahue, for asking questions, and learning by doing; d2_racing for taking me north of the border to Quebec, cach0rr0, for putting my seeds on his machines, and all those who have allowed me to fuck with the guts of their machinery. Had it not been for y'all, this would have been yet another of my ideas that popped into and out of existence too fast to even be seen.

My biggest thanks goes to NeddySeagoon. His singular belief in the project, and his willingness to allow me a small space on his server for the seeds truly allowed this project to far exceed any expectation I ever held for it.

No announcement here would be complete without me telling you that I have some new .configs to upload as well. I have uploaded the .configs for 2.6.31-gentoo for both x86 and x86_64 flavors. Enjoy!

Thanks again to everyone who made this happen.

Blessed be!
Pappy

The seeds for tuxonice magically fixed an opengl-issue i had, great work!
I wanted to add, that USB DSL modems such as the ones from Huawei (e.g. E620) don't work out of the box with the seeds. Since they are getting more and more popular (at least in middle europe), you might consider checking the respective options.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

I feel good about the seeds not only because I got my laptop running one of your seeds, but mainly because a forum poster a little while back was having trouble getting his first custom kernel working. I referred him to the seeds, and he posted back his thanks, as it worked for him the first try! :D

Happy Seed-Day! This is a way cool project. I often refer others to this project when a kernel config question comes up.

If you ever need it, I will gladly donate server space to this project. At the moment, I've got plenty of that to spare.

Thanks. I'm hoping to get enough moolah here in the next few weeks to put my machine up and serve it here. But if I ever need the space, I'll definitely let you know.

Blessed be!

Pappy:

Is the "moolah" problem with the box, or with the static IP to make it visible? Boxes to serve over DSL speeds are pretty cheap. I get used Gateway mini-desktop units that have come off 2 year lease and been refurbished for $100.00 US from a local clone shop. You should be able to do as well where you are. You will probably need to add a bigger disk and more memory. Memory is cheap nowdays.

If you already have a tower style box and motherboard, but it uses IDE drives, I could donate a pair of 250 GB IDE drives in removable mobile carriers, as I retired the box that was using them a few months ago. You can run them as RAID-1 mirror so they will boot off either drive, so you have redundancy if a drive fails. You can run the system off either drive and it will keep on trucking when a drive fails. The only caveat is you can't hot swap IDE drives; you gotta shut the system off first.

If the problem is a static IP, perhaps I could help by serving you a tunnelled static IP over openVPN. That is how I am running my servers now. I have one box colocated at my ISP to serve the VPN tunnel, and then another firewall-router-tunnel-end-point box at my end to put the static IPs on my DMZ.

Let me know if any of this would help you.

Keep up the great work! :D

Hi Pappy,
Here is where our new friend needs help, if you have the time.

Everything should be there including fstab, lspci -n and so on.

Thanks. :)

Machinery is not an issue. I want to set up with a DNS outfit, so I can keep my dynamic IP. Getting money is a bit difficult. I have the server working. I've sent large files and other things using apache. I've sent the IP address as a part of the URL, and it works just fine. At the very least, I need to purchase a domain name, or register one.

At the moment, keeping my car running is a bit more important, so I do without until I have the cash...hopefully this weekend.

Blessed be!
Pappy

OK, let me know if I can help with any of the things I mentioned. We are all waiting for the new server to come online. :)

Hello Pappy, I've been having problems with ati-drivers and xorg and I think its related to my kernel config, I used one of your kernel seeds to make it, if you could take a look its in this thread:

Well I can only hope that I'm not bothering him, I would hate to annoy someone who's given so much to this community already.

What d2_racing said.

I've been driving myself nuts because my car has been having nervous fits. I can now claim victory in this fight. After rewiring the entire primary ignition system (power transistor, coil packs, and the connectors that hook it all together), and cleaning the posts on the battery, and moving the ignition circuit onto its own lug on the battery clamp, and moving the power transistor to a less heated area, I declare the ignition system fixed. I also declare the irritating misfire gone as well. YAY! !HAPPY DANCE!

I shudder to think how much that would have cost if I had to pay for services rendered! 8O

Now, I can get on with things here.

To all those requesting, please post your .configs, the results of lspci -n and cat /proc/cpuinfo, as well as your /etc/fstab files.

Blessed be!
Pappy
