I've made an ebuilds for plasmoid, I'm using.

System status - shows cpu, memory and swap like in kde3

Just few things that I have been wondering about.
Firstly, when will the plasmoids (in the overlay) be compatible with 4.2. I guess this depends more on the developer than anyone else, but would be nice to know if there were any major API changes between 4.1 and 4.2 that might prevent me from writing a dirty hack and getting this to work.
Secondly, most of the plasmoids that are currently shipped with 4.2 plain do not work - as soon as I try to add them to the desktop plasma freezes. Now I was wondering whether I am the only one with this problem or is this a general issue?

After upgrading to 4.1.82 I don't hear any system sounds and amarok won't play anything. And I can't see any phonon backend in Multimedia settings. Anybody having a similar error?

chh,
Just a thought, but are you by chance running x86, and NOT ~x86?
IIRC, hunky and I discussed this (he didn't want to go with a pure ~x86 system), and he was NOT running ~x86 at that time. Apparently, he still has this pykde4 problem. Don't know if it makes a difference, but it's worth considering. I do know I don't seem to have a lot of the same errors others report that are running x86 systems.

I must say, going ~x86 is too much for just having a preview peek at kde 4.2. If there is no other solution to the problem I sould rather wait.

How would an upgrade of glibc fit in there - perhaps it needs an emerge -e system or world as well? I've got so many packages installed it would take forever so hoping to somehow wedge an upgrade of gcc and glibc in together somehow.
glibc is part of the toolchain. So, after switching to gcc-4.3.2, rebuild the toolchain (IIRC, it's emerge -p gcc binutils glibc libtool portage libstdc++-v3). Not sure on the order, but emerge should sort it out OK. On the libstdc++-v3, not sure if it's still needed on a recent system- check with equery l libstdc and see if you have it installed. Just checked on this recent install I'm on right now, and I have virtual/libstdc++-3.3 installed. However, this might be because when I recently updated to glibc-2.9, I did rebuild the toolchain and used libstdc++-v3 without thinking. Now that I think about it, it might not be needed anymore, unless you are running a system originally installed long ago. I might be wrong on this, but it doesn't seem to cause any problem.

There are several posts/threads on the forum about toolchain rebuilding, and shell wrappers for doing so- I prefer doing it manually (just old-fashioned, I guess).

Anyway, after doing the toolchain rebuild, you might be able to get away with just an emerge -e system and then a revdep-rebuild, and let the other world packages get rebuilt over time, but I wouldn't count on it. Better to also do an emerge -e world and be sure you have a consistent ~x86 system & world, and it might avoid weird problems later.

I would also go with portage-2.2.xx for running an ~x86 system, but they decided to mask it, so you will need to unmask >=sys-apps/portage-2.2_pre. If you are running kde-crazy, you probably need this version for the set support. It works fine, but the reason for masking is found in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask. I went along for months using it as it was always in ~x86, but unexpectedly got downgraded to a 2.1 version on a sync and emerge -uD @system. Had to unmask.

I suppose all this is tangentially related to running kde-crazy, but I suspect we are getting too far off topic here...

Tried rebuiding kdelibs 1st?

Kdelibs-4.1.82 was built first, then the pykde4 attempt several packages later. I doubt it would do anything to rebuild kdelibs again - if you follow back in this thread the problem has persisted through all my previous attempts and some others as well, with kde-live and kde-4.2 versions.

I have exactly the same problem with pykde4 :-( I was never able to build it, neither from genkdesvn overlay nor from kde-crazy live ebuilds. It is strange that obviously there are some people there, who don't have this problem :-( It is weird.

Maybe there is a problem that I don't have all packages installed - just around 100 packages and there is something missing what is not covered by dependencies. But I cannot imagine what :(

Thought I'd try kde-crazy koffice again (after 2-3 months not messing with koffice). koffice-data (1 of 9 packages) went fine, but then immediately koffice-libs-9999 fails with this mess.

Looked on websvn to try and see what was going on, but with my limited knowledge couldn't spot anything. Is koffice-9999 still way to much a work in progress to even compile, and I just need to wait? Think I'll look on Arch Linux and see if markc's kdesvn and koffice packages are working.

Could someone please confirm that the plasma crash on adding widgets is my local problem or a general one. Please!

Thanks

That is not a relief! :(
Any idea what could be wrong here? Why can't I add desktop widgets?

Niether. amd64 with quite a few package.keyworkds on both a dual core Opteron and a core2 quad. On the amd box I run gcc-4.2.4 and 4.3.2 on the core2.

The sound problem I had when switching to 4.2 svn was I had to drop gstreamer support then it started working again. But I'll test it later after install 64bit again. But I'm pretty sure that is the problem.

Can someone create an ebuild for these plasmoid?

Same here and i don't find the solution.

I'm running on x86 with many packages in keywords (basically most GUI applications). GCC version 4.1.2.

USE=-gstreamer emerge -1 phonon -> still no backend available :-(

For the people with Phonon Backend problems... it seems that KDE built with kdeprefix is looking for the .desktop files in the /usr/kde/4.2/share/kde4/services/ directory, however phonon is installing them in the /usr/share/kde4/services/ directory. A quick fix, until an updated ebuild or appropriate fix comes out, is the following (which I had also mentioned on Page 22 of this thread):

Code:
ln -s /usr/share/kde4/services/phononbackends /usr/kde/4.2/share/kde4/services/

This will create a link that will allow kde to find the backends (a kbuildsycoca4 or new start may also be required...) I hope that helps.

But you did emerge @kdebase-4.2? That's how I installed kde-4.1.x

Btw, I'm running amd64 with quite a lot of lines in keywords and unmask (directories).

It worked, thanks. Sorry for not having noticed it on the previous page ;-)

EDIT: probably this is not the right place, but do you know if networkmanager's applet is going to be released with 4.2? I don't think so, but how are we supposed to handle wireless connection without it? At the moment I'm stuck with knetworkmanager-3.5, but I'd like to get rid of it.

No I didn't. There are many application I don't need. I was moving from genkdesvn so I left world untouched, only removed packages installed from genkdesvn overlay, then removed genkdesvn ovelay, added kde-crazy and updated world. It worked this way and all dependencies has should be satisfied. Anyway it is not a must to install everything in @kde-base-4.2 or is it?

I have forgotten to write that currently I am using live ebuilds.

Hmmm. I've always thought so, but maybe I'm wrong. At the least, I think it's probably a good idea. :)

On another point, something curious here- can anyone please explain what's going on?
Code:
kdesvn wrc # emerge -p1v @kde-live

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

app-office/akonadi-server:0

('ebuild', '/', 'app-office/akonadi-server-1.0.80', 'merge') pulled in by
    >=app-office/akonadi-server-1.0.80[mysql] required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/akonadi-9999', 'merge')

('ebuild', '/', 'app-office/akonadi-server-9999', 'merge') pulled in by
    app-office/akonadi-server required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/ktimetracker-9999', 'merge')
    =app-office/akonadi-server-9999 required by @kde-live
    app-office/akonadi-server required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/kdemaildir-9999', 'merge')
    (and 10 more)

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in the
dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can not be
installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page
or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/qt-sql:4[mysql]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/qt-sql-4.4.2 (Change USE: +mysql)
(dependency required by "app-office/akonadi-server-1.0.80" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-base/akonadi-9999" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@kde-live" [argument])

So I masked app-office/akonadi-server-1.0.80 in /etc/portage/package.mask (file, not a symlinked directory), and installed qt-mysql with the mysql USE flag:
Code:
kdesvn wrc # emerge -pv qt-sql

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

However, emerge -pv1 kde-live still gives me this, even though akonadi-server IS keyworded:
Code:
kdesvn wrc # emerge -p1v @kde-live
KejPi
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

but emerge -pv1 kde-deps lists akonadi-server, as usual:

I have been using just the sets kdedeps-live, and kdebase-live, then adding some other packages I use manually, but I thought it might be a good idea (for fun) to try the entire kde-crazy overlay with the kde-live set. However, this akonadi server problem seems to prevent me from using the one big kde-live set.

Hmm. :? Just noticed akonadi-server shows the -mysql USE flag (disabled). Should I enable it in /etc/portage/package.use since qt-sql now has it enabled?
