Don't reverse that anymore, as the overlay maintainers have worked around it, it seems.

Thanks! :)

I did paludis -s kde4-experimental just right now. Then I've recompiled plasma-workspace, but still get this error.

Try recompiling everything... esp kdelibs

Do you need/use zeroconf support?

Well it looks like you have the zeroconf useflag enabled, looking at those compile errors with mdnsd stuff :P

Actually, nope.... Take a look: here

It was upstream error. It's compiled now :)

Ok. If you reverted that CMakeLists.txt patch directly in svn-src like I did, did you apply it again or delete that file before updating?
Because otherwhise you get conflicts on svn up.

I've deleted the whole workspace dir and removed PATCH="... line from the ebuild file. The same error in kdeplasma-addons :)

Right now I'm trying to compile KDE4. As usual, I uninstall it first, then sync and finally build.

So far, the usual problem strikes back: plasma-workspace always fails to build. Since I use --continue-on-failure always, it won't stop the process. When I see that, I open another konsole and instruct paludis to build only plasma-workspace, and it succeeds. It's been like that for quite a long time now. Maybe it depends on something that is scheduled to be built later. I've never seen the error message (because paludis just continues with the next package).

kscd always fails with this error:

Quote:
make -j5 install DESTDIR=/var/tmp/paludis/kde-base-kscd-scm/image/
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
/usr/libexec/paludis/utils/emake: emake returned error 2

!!! ERROR in kde-base/kscd-scm:
!!! In cmake-utils_src_install at line 1342
!!! Make install failed

!!! Call stack:
!!! * cmake-utils_src_install (/var/tmp/paludis/kde-base-kscd-scm/temp/loadsaveenv:1342)
!!! * gks-meta_src_install (/var/tmp/paludis/kde-base-kscd-scm/temp/loadsaveenv:3624)
!!! * src_install (/var/tmp/paludis/kde-base-kscd-scm/temp/loadsaveenv:4787)

!!! * ebuild_main (/usr/libexec/paludis/ebuild.bash:482)
!!! * main (/usr/libexec/paludis/ebuild.bash:498)

pykde4 pukes a lot of undefined references from sip/nepomuk too.

In fact, I think I've never been able to build all the packages. Am I the only one? Are there any tricks I should know about?

Sync the overlay. That should have been fixed some days ago.

Successfully rebuilt here, just be sure to rebuilt everything:
Code:
paludis --install --preserve-world --dl-reinstall-scm daily --continue-on-failure if-satisfied genkdesvn-all

Hello kde-tester folk, I'm not sure what it has to do with, but when I try to compil "plasma-workspace-scm", I got this error:

Code:
[ 62%] Building CXX object plasma/dataengines/systemmonitor/CMakeFiles/plasma_engine_systemmonitor.dir/plasma_engine_systemmonitor_automoc.o
[ 63%] Building CXX object plasma/dataengines/systemmonitor/CMakeFiles/plasma_engine_systemmonitor.dir/systemmonitor.o
/var/tmp/paludis/kde-base-plasma-workspace-scm/work/plasma-workspace/plasma/dataengines/systemmonitor/systemmonitor.cpp:49: warning: unused parameter 'name'
Linking CXX shared module ../../../lib/plasma_engine_systemmonitor.so
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lksgrd

Google is suprisingly silent about it...

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know whether kde 4 is supposed to work with xorg 7.4? When I tried it, I started getting random crashes, which immediately disappeared when switching back to xorg 7.3. I initially thought the crashes might have been caused by the new version of ati-driver which I installed along with the new version of xorg, but switching to radeonhd didn't solve the issue.

I tried searching the kde bugs and gentoo bugs databases, but I couldn't find anything similar. I guess the issue is related to kwin, because using kde applications with another window manager didn't produce the crash. If this is indeed a kde bug, I'll report it as such, but I'd like to hear what other users think about this issue before doing so.

Thanks

Thanks it did work.
But ksysguard won't install without first having plasma-workspace installed (which it can't be obviouly).

I had to do:
Code:
paludis --log-level qa --preserve-world --install --serialised 0.25 'package;=kde-base/ksysguard-scm:kde-svn::kde-experimental;installed;has_all_deps;P'

to force ksysguard to install.

So maybe the ebuilds haven't the right dependencies. Plasma-workspace needs ksysguard, not the other way around?

Anyway thanks for your help :)

Are you doing a 1st time install or just recompile?

Am running 7.4 without any apparent problems other than having to log in manually via startx - though I haven't wasted much time working this one out! System tray icons don't seem to like transparent themes, but again I've not spent any time on it since they are useable as they are. Am using live ebuilds from x11 overlay for xorg-server etc. & nvidia-drivers-180.16. So, whether it's supposed to work or not it seems to be stable - no crashes.

It's been a month since I was able to compile gwenview successfully.

Not sure, but do you have tests enabled in paludis?
export SKIP_FUNCTIONS=test in bashrc

!!! ERROR in kde-base/gwenview-scm:
!!! In cmake-utils_src_configureout at line 1328
!!! Cmake failed

Use flags:
Code:

* kde-base/gwenview :kde-svn [R scm] <target>
-semantic-desktop -debug -htmlhandbook -kipi build_options: split strip

Any hints?
Thanks

I think that gwenview requires nepomuk, so you'll need to enable the semantic-desktop use flag. Note that this will require a rebuild of kdelibs.
