Hey guys, I just got an IMac g3 slot loader. I am going to be using it just for school programming, mp3 machine and possibly ssh into it if I need something.

Anyway the dirty:
I don't are about a dual boot at the moment. I might be upgrading it with OS X and Gentoo, but for right now, just want Gentoo. I couldn't get Quik to compile, and I have read that it has some quirks about it. Also, BootX wouldn't work for me, not sure if I did something wrong on that. Any suggestions for a boot loader on my PPC with just Gentoo installed? I'll end up using BootX later when I upgrade to a bigger harddrive.

This is a "New World" style machine, so your only option is to use yaboot.

Ah. I was under the impression that the IMac G3 was an Old World. Awesome.

Thanks for the help! I'll do the research on Yaboot.

So I'm guessing I have to do a Dual Boot now if I have to use Yaboot.

No, there's no need for MacOS/MacOSX with yaboot, you can have a purely Linux system.
