compile yourself or rename ' webmin-1.400-r1.ebuild ' to ' webmin-1.430.ebuild ' and tryout !

I renamed the following file...
Quote:
/usr/portage/app-admin/webmin/webmin-1.400-r1.ebuild
and changed it to
Quote:
/usr/portage/app-admin/webmin/webmin-1.430.ebuild
but that didn't do anything.

I used the eix program and the only version available in portage is webmin-1.400-r1.

I guess I will have to download webmin from the webmin website and install it manually. :(

I checked on Bugzilla and there is already a version bump bug about it. It is assigned to maintainer-needed, which means that nobody is actively maintaining it. There are, however, user-submitted ebuilds attached to the bug. 8)

How do I use the user submitted ebuilds? Can someone write out a step by step guide on what to do?

This is one guilde that I found.

I also noticed that what is in the bug are patches to the ebuild in the tree, not complete ebuilds. Look at man patch. It will explain how to use the patches to create updated ebuilds and then you can add the new ebuilds to your overlay and use them.

you must do ' ebuild /usr/portage/app-admin/webmin/webmin-1.430.ebuild digest '

to update the ' manifest ' :!:  :!:

then it will download the new webmin sources :!:

now you can ' emerge -va webmin '

BUT IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA. CHANGE ' ebuilds ' IN ' /usr/portage/... '

PLEASE MAKE A LOCAL COPY TO ' /usr/local/portage/app-admin/webmin/webmin-1.430.ebuild '

and add this to your ' /etc/make.conf ' , like this:

Code:
 PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/"

Although the current version is in portage. In the future you can check my overlay. See link in my sig. I usually have a new ebuild out within 2 weeks of a new major release.

I added webmin-1.450 to my overlay.

http://github.com/drescherjm/jmdgentoooverlay/tree/0cb6b31c9e65b7e481dcea1a140d9598c348560a/app-admin/webmin

I tested it with my core2 quad and installed it with the latest portage-2.2
