Ok, this is driving me crazy-my clock is off by 12 hours, the date is correct, the time for the clock is correct, I thought I double checked the time zone setting-but I guess that's wrong
-I tried setting the time using date and that only lasts until I reboot
-I read through the install guide again to see if I could find anything that might help, but nothing in there seemed to do the trick

I'm confused

Thanks

are u dual-booting with microsoft oss?...as thats usually making bunch of trouble..but it should also work though.
if dual-booting u might need to set 'local' in this file /etc/conf.d/clock....and make sure you have the correct time zone in there e.g Europe/Amsterdam for my case
And cp time zone as:
Quote:
cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Amsterdam /etc/localtime

and then check again if you are all set if not....and you cant get it to work here is the last resort will be to sync your clock with internet guide http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_NTP

P:S
Sometimes upgrading sys-libs/timezone-data also helps....

If you want to preserve the clock's value between reboots you have to write the system clock into the hardware clock. Use hwclock to do this.

Code:
 hwclock --systohc
after date.
