hi folks,

this is really strange. i don't know what i've done to my system, except updating the system on the regular basis, but i can't login to skype anymore.

skype starts as usual and prompts for the login...

but login fails. also with the user of my girlfriend. first i asumed somebody hacked into my account. but going to the windows machine, everythings works fine.

i would appreciate any good idea leading towards a possible solution.

i use the latest stabel version of skype: 2.0.0.63

cheers!

alex

try the latest 2.0.0.72 may be. other remote candidates - blocked network ports (firewall/router) or a borked authentication/encryption library like ssl may be.

nope, from here on its pretty much hardwork (or give up ;)). may be it might help to backtrack which update caused it (try to look into /var/log/emerge.log for any scapegoats). given that skype is a binary package, i don't know if it gives out any debug/log messages when starting from console or in /var/log/messages. also see if emerging with or without USE=qt-static helps (due to incompatibility with qt in your system). also try deleting ~/.Skype/ folder :p.

hi hirakendu,

thanks for stiking with me, but i see no chance to track it. i checked the emerge.log and everything possible. with qt-static and withoud. direct download as well as unmasking...
i hope this mysterous bug will disappear the same way it appeared. suddenly and soon ;-)

if i find something, i'll let you know.

gracias!

alex

allthough i'm still quite far away from any solution, dispite giving up, i found today a thread on the skype forum concerning the very same issue:
