Hi
I have a question about masked packages:
I try to turn an old b/w 300Mhz G3 into an Gentoobox, (have little experience with gentoo, always been a debian-based linux user) but a lot of packages seems to be masked by keyword ~ppc
I can understand that some packages just aren't made for a ppc, but what about for example xcalc? should be a basic X package witch should be installable on many platforms? same for gnash, i have read alot on the net that it is they way to get (a little) flash playable on ppc.
Maybe some configuration error i made?
I dunno where to look......... |

~PPC is just the testing branch. Not that those packages aren't good enough for PPC, it just means that they aren't marked as stable yet. If you're a Debian user, you know that there are some packages on Lenny that aren't on Etch. This is similar, although in Gentoo you can mix packages from both branches, if you want to.

No configuration error, that's the way that Gentoo works. If you think that gnash is stable, read about marking packages as stable and file a bug report.
Please check http://packages.gentoo.org so that you can have a visual representation of the various package versions and keywords. |

You dont have to stress if your just trying a ~ppc flagged package on a ppc machine.
Just be aware there may still be issues.
I remember the days where i was telling portage to ignore the total absence of an Arch flag on my Ultra5 to run Tilda, masked as ~86 and i was compiling it on sparc64 lol _________________ The Tech Dragon's Hax : My blog, from the IT & Web Trenches.

Many thanxs!!
I think I have a lot of reading to do about portage
Compiling gnash right now (takes a lot of cups-o-coffee on a 300Mhz machine lol ) Hope i will be able to see some youtube-movies tonight...
offtopic: Does anyone know a lightweight image-manipulating program to use? I'm not going to use GIMP as it is using way to much resources. I want to make some banners, buttons etc when i'm building websites.... |
