I've been using the nvidia-drivers in Gentoo and I've found something odd. When I use the astronomy program Stellarium, it runs very noticeably slower in Gentoo than it does in Ubuntu. I am using the nvidia-drivers in Gentoo and have checked the xorg.conf to confirm that. The only reason I can think of for the program running so much slower is that for some reason there isn't any hardware acceleration going on. How do I fix this?

Run glxinfo - you want to see direct rendering. The Gentoo wiki has nvidia info.

try changing to the xorg glx and then back to nvidia and see if it fixes it.

Code:
eselect opengl set nvidia

As shown by:
Code:
glxinfo | grep -i vendor

Which should show nvidia, not mesa.

Gentoo does some funky symlinks to switch between mesa and nvidia libraries & headers for opengl. Because e.g. xorg compilation needs mesa headers. More info here.

I kinda just did the eselect thing after reemerging. It's working now. Thanks.
