Hey!

I've been getting a lot of success these days in pinging the Gentoo forum with wacky ideas, and getting good answers, so I thought I'd take a stab at it again. ;)

My wife runs her business from home, and so she's often got a lot of data on her Windows PC. I'm a little concerned that we don't have an adequate backup solution for her stuff, while my Gentoo stuff is getting all the backup loving it needs with rsnapshot these days.

Anyhow, I'm currently digging around for online solutions, but I have a desktop I've converted to a server and I wonder if there are any easy to use, non-obtrusive backup solutions that could instead do the storage to said server? Ideally it would be free (or at least inexpensive), easy to use (or better yet, not need twiddling!) and pretty secure/failsafe. Bonus if it could backup across the Internet too (as it's a laptop, and she might not always be on the LAN).

Anyone know of such a thing? Or am I asking for my cake and trying to eat it too? :)

Thanks!

how about using pscp (putty's scp)? then just go over to My Documents or wherever and recursively scp the whole thing onto the linux server. since it is encrypted it will get checked on both ends and will have the security benifit as well.

edit: there _has_ to be an rsync client for windows. I can't believe that there isn't..

quickshot suggestion: rsync daemon on your linux box and DeltaCopy on your windows machine should do the trick.
Quote:
If you have an "rsync" daemon running on Linux/Unix/BSD or any other platform, DeltaCopy client will successfully connect to them.

thats cool. can it do rsync using ssh (--rsh=ssh) to backup to linux boxes not running rsync daemon?

It seems so, per a FAQ at the link you didn't check. :P
