hi,

i am experiencing the same with all release candidates of 2.6.28.
dhcpcd times out "waiting for carrier" on eth0. "0f:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 80003ES2LAN Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper) (rev 01)", driver e1000e.
after bootup completed i issue "rc" and everthing is fine.
switching back to gentoo-sources-2.6.27-r4, everything is fine.
has anybody seen the same and maybe has a gmane link to a bug report on the mailing list?

I don't have any e1000e hardware, but my machines with e1000 NICs are working fine with 2.6.28-rc

Do you have ifplugd installed ? Maybe it is just a timing issue ...

no ifplugd or netplug.
it is indeed possible that it is a timing issue, because between the fail and the later rc nothing NIC related happens.

Hi, maybe you should try this :

Code:

# cd /etc/init.d
# ln -s net.lo net.eth0
# rc-update add net.eth0 default

and reboot your box.

Code:
% ls -l /etc/init.d/net.*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   6 Jul 28 22:23 /etc/init.d/net.atm0 -> net.lo
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   6 Jun 19 16:26 /etc/init.d/net.eth0 -> net.lo

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 15K Oct 10 14:45 /etc/init.d/net.lo

what should be wrong with my symlinks?
remember, this all is working correctly with kernels <=2.6.28-rcX.
