I was looking about a month ago at a wiki that was talking about so sysv alternative that was crazy fast. I can not find it now... probaably because of the wikis going down.

it is not a replacement for init, but maybe you are talking about sys-apps/openrc.
a real replacement for init is sys-apps/einit.

Err.... from the kyuba page:
Quote:

Currently there is no code for this project just yet (other than the libraries), so you may want to have a look at the last versions and the git repository of eINIT instead

so don't expect anything soon in portage.

Well that's cool.... I don't care what it's called, only that it's fast ;)

well here is the point where you leave the comfy confines of portage and enter... uhm... no mans land

kyuba live ebuild
http://git.kyuba.org/?p=portage-overlay.git;a=tree;f=sys-apps/kyuba;h=b1d98eb83683b2287305aa11acf6e33266b1d32b;hb=HEAD

you could also git clone the overlay: http://git.kyuba.org/?p=portage-overlay.git;a=tree

Hey,

does it do anything else but basically replace the init binary but still call all other normal stuff, or can I already do something to really take advantage of it? I installed it yesterday, which seemed to work, but everything is still on openRC...
