That looks like the side effect of a fairly dodgy ebuild to me. I'd post it in the bug thread and let the guy who's attempting to write the ebuild have a look at it. I'm not actually using it, just trying to point you in the right direction :)

If you don't mind using mozilla-thunderbird-bin, there's a masked 3.0_beta1 ebuild for that in the portage tree already, I've just noticed.

It's actually my ebuild, and that's exactly where it fails for me too. I didn't bother continuing since I have a compiled copy sitting in my home directory, which I got by following Mozilla's directions.

I'll try to take a look at it, and see what I can figure out.

there is a -bin ebuild available... saw it on gentoo-portage earlier.

The -bin segfaults at startup on my machine. Will go further into testing before submiting anything to b.g.o.
