I've been working on building the 2008.0 minimal install from the ground up. I finally have X working, without cross compiling, so it took extra long!

I have followed the Cell overlay and the PS3 install, but since I made my install with a 64 bit ul it's been an interesting ride. libspe2 and some of the portage package.use package.mask package.unmask and compiling for the spu's has been difficult.

Who here has been able to play a full screen video with no delay or frame dropping? I am interested in seeing other peoples make.conf files, /etc/portage files and emerge.log. I compiled mplayer and mplayer with the libspe2 hack, but I don't see much of an improvement at 1080p.

It also looks like there's a bug or hypervisor interaction when you attempt to use the mplayer -vo and specify direct hardware output as root, it will freeze the system.

Anyhow just a big rant really, I just want to see what else other people have done to get the 2008.0 up and running on their PS3's

Just an update on the keywording of packages, I added ppc/ppc64 stable keywords to the versions of libspe2 and spe-tools in portage, as well as adding the latest versions, tested on the QS20 I've got access to. Hopefully that'll help others install in the future! Were there any other packages that you feel should have been stable/supported?

I can't comment on the mplayer issues, sorry!

Quite a few it will take me a bit to get a list, I have been having problems getting freevo to emerge, I tried to use the latest stable release and the one just before that, do you know where I could get the logs of these attempts so I could paste them in my next reply?

Usually, one just copies and pastes the error from the console into here, but portage also logs the information in:
Quote:
/var/tmp/portage/(package category)/(package name-version)/temp/build.log
.

app-misc/ps3pf_utils could use stabilizing. I use 2.3 without incident, I don't know about the earlier versions.

Get the 2008.0 for ppc / ppc64 I think I started with stage3, it is a BIG process though.

I just compiled gcc 4.4.0 (native) and 2.6.29 kernel with crossdev... now how I can use RSX like swap?

Code:
CONFIG_MTD_PS3VRAM:
This driver allows you to use excess PS3 video RAM as volatile storage or system swap.

Are there any module options?
