Hi, trying to emerge @kdebase-4.2, started ok, but upon reaching kdelibs-4.1.87, I ran into problems. Specifically, automoc4 cannot be found by configure.

Code:

Automoc 0.9.87 from the overlay is installed to /usr/lib/automoc4/ and /usr/bin/automoc4. I've also synced the overlay and am current as of this posting. I looked through the previous threads, didn't see anything matching this problem, so I'd appreciate any ideas anyone might have on fixing this.

When I try to merge kde-4.2[ from kde-testing], I get that kdebase-3.5 blocks the install.
Is this normal? I was under the impression that it was possible to install kde4 and kde-3.5.

Code:

[blocks B     ] <=kde-base/kdebase-3.5.9-r4 ("<=kde-base/kdebase-3.5.9-r4" is blocking kde-base/kdelibs-4.1.87)

I'm not sure, but maybe upgrading to KDE 3.5.10 solves your problem (I think I had a similar problem and upgrading to 3.5.10 solved it). Do you have kdeprefix enabled or disabled?

Yeah you can but you need +kdeprefix not -kdeprefix

So I'm using Kontact/KMail from the kde-crazy overlay. About a week ago, kmail began to crash immediately on startup. Moving the $HOME/Mail folder to a backup and starting fresh solves the problem. If I try to import the old maildir, KMail crashes as soon as I access the import folder. I can read the backed-up maildirs with mutt. Anybody else seeing this?

There is koffice-2 set in kde-testing. But ebuilds for koffice-2 are missing (apparently they are in kde-crazy). When are you going to add koffce-2 to kde-testing, it is already in beta stage...?

hi
i've just removed kde-crazy and layman-ed kde-testing for upgrading to 4.1.87
now i have a very strange problem: there is no default plasma theme!
and lots of themes simply are not functioning well
it is only my problem? what to check?

second problem: i've lost ftp capability in dolphin/konqueror. Same question: which package is needed?
thanks

Curious if anyone has found a fix to kdelibs failing as per TemplarKnight's post above - I have the same fail.

cheers, JD

Do you have kdebase-desktoptheme installed?

What do we do about it? :?:

Fellas, I can't get passed this. Didn't anyone face it? I tried deleting and readding the kde-testing overlay but the result is the same. Seems to be something wrong with pkg_preinst but can't see what it is.

Any thoughts? I am stuck with this

TemplarKnight, do you have both the kde-testing and kde-crazy overlays enabled in you make.conf? I had the same problem with a couple of packages lately, so i removed kde-crazy from make.conf and all went fine.

That was actually the very first thing i though of... so I deleted the kde-crazy overlay but the problem persists.

This is my /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf file:
Code:

PORTDIR_OVERLAY="
/usr/portage/local/layman/desktop-effects
/usr/portage/local/layman/arcon
/usr/portage/local/layman/kde-testing
$PORTDIR_OVERLAY
"

that is sourced in make.conf :?

TemplarKnight: Try posting the output of /root/portage/log/kde-base:kdelibs-4.1.87:20090106-165544.log

I didn't read all of your posts because i was quite busy these days (4.2 is too close) but with a quick look i saw some very familiar SOLVED issues. So just a quick advice, please sync your tree and your overlays. Scarabeus and reavertm made some significant changes to eclasses, which by the way are going to be in portage very soon (last discussion about them will be held in today's meeting).

Looks like I still had kde-crazy though I thought I had uninstalled it when moving to -testing. After removing it and fixing my /etc/make.conf overlay directory statement, I was able to compile kdelibs again. Thanks for that. /jd

Since a month ago, amarok has stopped working (doesnt play music). The cause is that it cant find any backend. Neither xine nor gstreamer. Though both useflags are enabled in the phonon ebuild. I started with with a clean .kdelive dir... But nothing helps, anyone got an idea?

Fixed by enabling "kdeprefix".

@cracki: i already stated this twice: remove the gstreamer flag.
@TemplarKnight: again, sync tree and sync overlays. these kinds of problems are fixed. they were because of some hard testings on eclasses. You don't need to know more details ;)
btw we just finished our meeting (log and summary in http://kde.gentoo.org) and among others, the eclasses are hitting tree this weekend, and we are merging the overlays to make maintainance easier
