Hi. When i try to use preemptible kernel in zen-sources alsa, lm_sensors and nvidia drivers seems to fail. Here is what I get:

Code:

What could be wrong? Same thing happened with 2.6.29-r8-zen1 version too. If preemptible kernel is off then everything loads nicely.

fail !

I got a message like:

Quote:
BUG: unable to handle NULL pointer dereference at (null)

which seemingly is caused by a problem of cfq that is already fixed upstream (post-rc3):

commit: 3ac6c9f8a66726745136e46f63600550c3eb6cec

I'll wait until 2.6.30-rc4 is out which will be in some days then please also bump

thanks

reiserfs has gone nuts. upstream problem.

whatever zen-rc3 is kicking ass.
thanks!

seems like Jeff has a hard time reproducing this behavior :?

update:

removing support for cfq "fixed" the nullpointer dereference BUG for me (as a temporary workaround)

the kernel has come a long way !

I'm currently using deadline scheduler and gain 15 MB/s more in hdparm -tT /dev/foo (max throughput ?) compared to earlier kernel releases (63/66 vs. 78 MB/s)

seems like Linus currently is taking the performance lane

seems like more than short maintenance down time:
I could not connect to zen yesterday, now I am getting "fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly". I just have been lucky and there is some sort of a problem with zen server.

I mean yesterday nothing worked (zen-sources.org, the git http access; I hadn't tried to pull from it yet until now)

Probably some annoying bug introduced in thinkpad_acpi version 0.22 which is included in 2.6.29. I haven't tested 2.6.29 vanilla, but 2.6.29-zen2 keeps my T61 fan on all the time around 3500rpm, while 2.6.28-zen13 with the same config has fan off most of the time. Any thinkpad owner noticed same behavior?

thanks a lot !

it works now again :)

could you please pull rc4 and create a rc4-zen* kernel when you find some time ?

I'm really curious what kind of fixes and improvements Jens has added to cfq in order to fix latency issues

Yup, using rc3 right now but waiting for rc4 - lots of i915 fixes there.

make clean didn't help, but I compiled it succesfully on my second machine (slightly different hardware). so it may be related to my config. here it is: http://rafb.net/p/Au7Rj528.html

I am having a problem with 2.6.29-zen1. this problem is similar to one i experienced on this laptop using an earmier *.29 kernel, i solved that by changing filesystem. that isn't ideal on the affected laptop.

hardware is inspiron 6000, 1.8ghz intell, 1.5gb ram, 80 gb ide

.config is here.

I was not able to get a copy via logs of the error, but i did take pictures of the errors and posted them here
according to the first on the bug is in fs/xfs.

any suggestions, or should i pass this upstream?

upgrading to 30-rc5 does /not/ solve this problem
