Hello everyone!

I installed pommed on my 12" powerbook. Since it didn't start up, I tried to debug a little. I left out the not interesting working part ;-):
Code:
# pommed -d
I: pommed v1.21 ($Rev: 494 $) Apple laptops hotkeys handler
...
I: PMU machine check: running on a PowerBook6,8
Failed to access brightness node: No such file or directory
E: LCD backlight probe failed, check debug output

So, it seem the "brightness node" is missing. However, I got this in my kernel:
Code:
# grep BACKLIGHT .config
CONFIG_PMAC_BACKLIGHT=y
CONFIG_PMAC_BACKLIGHT_LEGACY=y
CONFIG_FB_BACKLIGHT=y
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_BACKLIGHT=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LCD_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE=y
# CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CORGI is not set

According to the pbbuttonsd-webpage (see 'kernel configuration'),
Code:
CONFIG_PMAC_BACKLIGHT=y
CONFIG_PMAC_BACKLIGHT_LEGACY=y

should be anything I need.

BTW, pbbuttonsd also doesn't work for controlling the brightness, of course ;-)!

So, does anyone have an idea how to get this working on my 12" powerbook?

Thanks in advance and happy new year!

Hello! That would be gentoo-sources-2.6.26-r2, latest stable for ppc atm.

Are you sure that the framebuffer in use is the nvidia framebuffer? Make sure the open firmware framebuffer is disabled in your kernel and that the nvidia framebuffer is enabled.

JoseJX, that was indeed the problem. I was using the open firmware framebuffer instead of the nvidia. Thank you very much!!
