Ever since I got sound working, it blasts me with this putrid sound everytime I bump the backspace against an empty prompt. I guess I'm asking how to disable the bell. I'm not in X.

It seems that you need to remove the pc speaker module. You can then set it on a blacklist so it never gets loaded again.

See here for moar info

I highly doubt that this works on ppc (I'm at work, so I can't check with my G4 at the moment though). However, (assuming you use bash), if you search in the the bash manpage for "bell", you'll find out how to turn it off :)

Hi
I'd say,at least for shell usage, to aims your configuration at the terminal you use and check the visual bell.
Which terminal do you use ? Konsole ? gnome_terminal ? xterm ? Another ?
Hth.

I just disable the correspondent option when I compile the kernel. Sorry, I can't recall the configuration option right now, but it's easy to find.
