Hi, the wine database and other forums seem to indicate this is a known and unsolved problem, but there hasn't been a peep about it here and I'm not aware of anyone getting it to work with an ATI card, so I figured I'd post my experience.
Code:
[ebuild   R   ] app-emulation/wine-1.1.14  USE="X alsa cups gecko ncurses opengl ssl xcomposite (-dbus) -esd (-gnutls) (-hal) -jack -jpeg -lcms (-ldap) (-nas) -oss -png -samba (-scanner) -win64 -xinerama -xml" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.561  USE="acpi -debug" 0 kB

Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobilitiy Radeon HD 3650 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

I downloaded and installed SketchUp 7 without a hitch today, but it's not usable because the screen looks like this (more or less, and without the ubuntu theme .

This is a Thinkpad T500, so I also have an Intel x4500MHD available, or could use the radeonhd driver, but I would think for 3D modeling, it's fglrx I want. I believe some people have gotten it working with Intel without DRI, but that seems pointless.

So there it is, has anyone gotten this working?

I had been using fglrx because I hadn't gotten radeonhd running, but once I hit this snag with SketchUp (the one thing I need the power of the ATI card at the moment for) I tried radeonhd again, and it worked to load X and worked in SkecthUp! I think it didn't originally work because I had DRM built-in, when I changed it to a module for fglrx, it also fixed radeonhd.

Using xf86-video-intel-2.6.1 on the Intel card works too now
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

SketchUp is slooow with both options, but at least it works and I imagine radeonhd will be improving.

i just ran into the same issue. at least, i think so, as i can't see your screenshot anymore. just installed google sketchup with wine. the menus are ok, but the workspace looks like this.
i tried disabling compiz, but this didn't help. all other opengl applications are fine.
someone an idea?

google sketchup is version 7.1.6860

Code:

[ebuild   R   ] media-libs/mesa-7.7-r1

Hi, my screen corruption was less identifiable, more mixed, more homogeneous, but the same basic idea where it only happened in the workspace and not the toolbars.

I haven't used SketchUp in awhile, and the installation failed in my last few attempts. I installed virtualbox-bin for some other apps and SketchUp seems to work fine there.

When I was trying to get it running under wine, many more people had instructions for nvidia cards so you should find some help online.

surprised there isnt a fix for this yet. I am having the same problems.

I have updated to wine-1.3.5 and nvidia-drivers-256.53 on an 8600GT, trying to run google sketchup 8.0.3117

i have the corrupted workspace and cannot use google sketchup in wine.

i also tried downgrading to Google SketchUp 7.1.6860 and Google SketchUp 6.4.112 without any success. Both versions are doing the same thing as 8

I have an Nvidia 8400GT. I have tried both Sketchup 7.1 and 8. I have tried Nvidia-drivers 195.*, 256.*. I have tried both Nvidia's opengl and xorg-x11's with each of the Nvidia drivers. I have also tried wine 1.37, 1.2 and 1.1.29. The symptoms are the same for all variations, which is the corrupted workspace issue.

I have also tried playonlinux's install of sketchup. Same results.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Dave Day

I tried swapping the 8400 out for a 7300 to see what effect that might have.

The 7300 gets a black workspace whereas the 8400 has a corrupted workspace showing fragments of browser page views.
