If you want to see kernel messages on an entire console do this:

1. Uncomment from /etc/metalog/metalog.conf the part about console logging (everything there is in that section) and replace
Code:

 facility:"*" with facility:"kern"

2. Now comment everything in /usr/bin/consolelog.sh
3.Uncomment from this file the last "echo" line and replace the redirection part with the tty you want.
Ex.
Code:

 echo $1 $2 $3 > /dev/tty12

I wasn't at my Gentoo Box right now so post if u have questions :!:

just to add to that, disable buffering of metalog to make things more instantanious.

I'm having trouble with the reverse, it is logging to console and I want to stop it. The consile logging stuff in metalog.conf is commented out what else do I need to check?

while i'm not sure about this, i think the kernel itself logs critical messages to tty01. And i'm not sure if there's a way to stop it.

But i'm really not sure i'm guessing here.
