Try using the latest ~git-sources-2.6.29, they fixed it for me. There are lots of i915-related fixes in there: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/snapshots/patch-2.6.29-git9.log

Just found out, that somethings completly out-of-order now. Wanted to rotate the screen via `xrandr -o left`, but the screen goes dark and doesn't show anything. Blindly entering `xrandr -o normal` doesn't bring the screen back. Looking into Xorg.0.log shows, that the requested mode gets set (both times) and lists no error. Switching to VT doesn't solve it, neither does killing X, so rebooting is the only option to get the screen back(edit, blindly issuing some vbe-calls also do nothing).

2.6.29, intel-2.6.99.902, (lib)Xrandr-1.3.0, xorg-1.6, mesa-7.4_rc1.

Downgrading intel to 2.6.3, maybe this helps.

Edit:
downgrading brings back rotating-functionality, but after rotating normal->left->normal and then issuing some command, I get weird characters in the output, which only go away after X restart :(

xbacklight still not working, though.

Try mesa-7.4. And don't forget to recompile xorg-server and intel.

Using git-sources didn't work for me although the patches looked very promising.

For me neither, and I have the same problems.

Thinkpad R61 with intel 965GM, I am using ~x86, meaning xserver 1.5.3, intel 2.6.3-r1 and mesa 7.4, and DRI doesn't work, I just get a software rasterizer with the message that screen 0 is not dri capable, and any programs that seem trying to use this just let my notebook freeze (I need hard reboot then), and since I have cairo with glitz support it virtually means all GTK apps.

I am at a loss, I shouldn't have bought the Thinkpad :( Now all I can do is wait for my hardware to get obsolete, but at least the drivers might work then.

The problems I'm running into really are more related to getting out of X then getting in. For example when I log out of my desktop session the screen goes blank like its restarting Xorg, and then just hangs there. The same thing just recently started happening when I shutdown or restart my netbook as well.

The other thing is that the console is gone. Literally just gone. When I do ctrl+alt+F[1-6] I just get the same black screen I get when logging out of my desktop session.

Same behaviour here now.

Turns out what I described is three separate problems.

The first problem is that FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y _is_ required to use the console, and I didn't have it turned on. So I set FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE, FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_DETECT_PRIMARY, FIRMWARE_EDID, and FB_MODE_HELPERS all to y in my kernel .config just to be on the safe side.

The second problem is that when I log out of my desktop session either Xorg or KDM crashes, doesn't restart properly, or whatever. I haven't had a chance to look deeper into it yet, so I'm not sure.

The third problem is the one where everything got stuck when I tried to reboot. This is something completely else that I have no idea what it was. Before this happened I was trying to suspend my netbook and it just wasn't working for whatever reason. Tried shutting down and that's when the hang occurred. I suspect the two items are related, and have nothing to do with KMS, intel drivers or anything else.

To anybody looking for a working xorg.conf config that works with KMS I put mine on pastebin: http://pastebin.com/pastebin.php?dl=ma0f2baa Hope that helps someone.

Dominic

//edit
btw, there's a good chance that compiz won't work with that config. I'm not using compiz 'cause I don't need something always eating up my CPU cycles and wasting battery power. The one time I did try compiz out on my netbook I couldn't get emerald window decorations working, so I gave up after roughly 10 minutes.

I think that for the rotation issues to be resolved we need to wait for a real-version release of randr - that is 1.3.

Mh, what do you mean? I've got 1.3.0 of xrandr, libXrandr and randrproto installed.

Well, xrandr has a different version numbering, than the extension, doesn't it?
And as far as I know the xrandr utility that makes use of the randr 1.3 extensions just got upstream yesterday or so, so he might have missed it so far, so be quick and update :).

I want to wait untill the stuff hits the unstable branch of gentoo, which shouldn't be that long anymore (I hope  ).

I've been doing 'emerge -e system && emerge -e world' since monday evening, after the gcc update so I'm not exactly up to date. If you really have 1.3 (not 1.2.3) and problems, then I'm seriously dissapointed.

I can confirm that. For me it solved the problem.

It was black screen when starting Xorg with X taking 100% CPU. Now with git sources it works just fine. Thanks for the tip.

The 1.3.0-versions are in the x11-overlay(since 4 days ago). Don't know if xrandr has another versioning-scheme, but since they are all at 1.3.0, I guess that'll be ok.

So am I, but that's not what I asked for. 9999_pre27 is a newer version, so I'm asking if it also seems stable and usable.

Hi All,

I've a question. Using intel-driver on GMA 945 with "UXA", the screen always locks after some seconds, although I can switch to virtual terminal and back to X. X is working than again but just for some seconds.

Moving to "EXA" fixes that, but 3D performance is awfull then.

Is there a bug known already, that I can follow? I do not have better information, sorry about.

Best regards
are

And what versions of stuff do you have?

BTW Just moved to the 9999_pre27 driver and it seems to work, don't have the time to play games right now, though.

Hi guys,

How do I go about installing the xorg-server from the x11 overlay? I've got it enabled.

Code:

xorg-server-1.6.1 has been released!
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzIwMw

Hopefully, this solves my stupid full swap problem.
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-5671802.html

EDIT:
xf86-video-intel-2.7.0 also released

when i install xorg-server-1.6 (input_devices_evdev input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse input_devices_synaptics nptl video_cards_intel video_cards_vesa xorg -hal), the keyboard stops working. What should I do to get it working again?

xorg.conf
Code:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Keyboard0"
        Driver      "kbd"
        Option      "XkbModel" "pc104"
        Option      "XkbLayout" "us+inet"
        Option      "XkbOptions" "compose:ralt"
EndSection

I am using this laptop

EDIT: I hadn't re-emerged the drivers.
