I did the 64-bit install via Sabayaon (x86_64-4-r1), selected KDE (3.5) as the default, and now everything installed fine, but I can't open anything other than konqueror in KDE.

If I double click on Firefox, it just displays that little waiting icon, then it disappears, but nothing happens. Likewise for other apps.

What's going on?

My hardware:
Intel Core2 Q9550
8GB RAM (OCZ)
Asus P5Q-E motherboard
WD 1TB Black (WD1001FALS) hard drive
ATI Radeon HD4670 GPU
Northgate Omnikey Evolution keyboard

Are you able to open up a shell from within kde?
I would try and open up a shell as your default user and try run firefox from the shell
Code:
# firefox

see if you get any errors on the command line, otherwise take a look at your /var/log/messages to see if you
can see any errors that make sense. #
Code:
tail -f /var/log/messages

Thank you, I'll give that a try when I get home.

Sure, let us know.
Did you emerge the 64bit version of firefox?

# emerge -avp mozilla-firefox
or
# emerge -avp mozilla-firefox-bin

depends on which one you have installed.

When I type firefox at the shell, I see the following:
Code:
Couldn't load XPCOM.

OpenOffice.org also seems to have problems. When I type oofromtemplate I get

Code:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

GIMP produces a similar error:

Code:
gimp: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

As does Amarok (amarokapp):

Code:
amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Picasa seems to open up fine. So does the KDE Control Center. digiKam 0.9.4 opens fine. K3b also opens fine.

I don't understand why things are so out of whack. I had previously had the 32-bit version installed (without realizing I'd made an error and d/l'ed the Sabayon 32-bit ISO), and everything worked fine.

Now, additionally for some reason Konqueror doesn't work:

Code:

An error occurred while loading http://www.google.com:
Unknown host www.google.com

The output of dmesg:

Code:

Seems to be a problem with your video drivers, i found something similair to yours that you can read through here;
http://osdir.com/ml/gentoo.newbies/2002-09/msg00174.html

You might have to re-emerge xorg-server with the following added to your
Code:
# vi /etc/make.conf
file;

Code:
VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx radeon vesa fbdev"

Can you paste what you have in your make.conf file # cat /etc/make.conf

Moved from Other Things Gentoo to Unsupported Software (Sabayon is considered an unsupported overlay).

Try running #
Code:
revdep-rebuild
as root, looks like your gcc is buggy. let me know.

I just reinstalled the whole thing...now it seems to work fine. Puzzling, since I didn't do anything. Only issue is when first installed, I had no mouse, and now I did, so maybe I screwed up something trying to select on kb.

There were just broken links so rev-dep rebuild fixed them for you, glad its working. Please add [Solved] to subject line.
