I installed Sabayon x86_64 4-r1, and have KDE 3.5.10. How can I tell what resolution it sets to my screen?

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf file says

Code:
# The favoured Depth and/or Bpp may be specified here

    DefaultDepth 24

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           8
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           16
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           24
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

However, the resolution seems a lot higher than 1024x768, and it should be: this is a 2048x1536 CRT!

The easiest wa, in my experience, is to use xrandr.

This comes as x11-apps/xrandr , and you emerge it , and just type

Code:
$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050
default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1680x1050      50.0*
   400x300        51.0     81.0     82.0     83.0
   1280x1024      52.0     55.0
   1600x1024      53.0
   1400x1050      54.0
   1280x960       56.0
   1152x864       57.0
   1024x768       58.0     59.0     60.0
   896x672        61.0
   832x624        62.0
   800x600        63.0     64.0     65.0     66.0     67.0     68.0
   800x512        69.0
   640x512        70.0     71.0
   640x480        72.0     73.0     74.0     75.0
   576x432        76.0
   512x384        77.0     78.0     79.0
   416x312        80.0
   320x240        84.0     85.0

The resolution with the asterisk is the one you are using. KDE has an app called resize and rotate, which uses xrandr, and gives a slightly nicer interface.
Hope this helps,

Anthony Staines

Thanks a bunch! Now how do I get it to change resolutions? The Resize and Rotate app (KRandrTray) gives me really insane resolutions, like 1920 x 1200, when I'm using a 4:3rds aspect ratio CRT.

For example, my CRT supports

Maximum Resolution
2048 x 1536 (@ 60 Hz)
Recommend Resolutions
1920 x 1440 @ 85Hz, 1800 x 1440 @ 85Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 85Hz

ok, now I added the following to my /etx/X11/xorg.conf file, and now KDE is acting all funny. Like, there's no top bar on the top of the screen:

Code:
# **********************************************************************
# Screen sections.
# **********************************************************************

Section "Screen"

# The Identifier, Device and Monitor lines must be present

    Identifier  "Screen 1"
    Device      "VESA"
    Monitor     "Generic Monitor"
    #Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"

# The favoured Depth and/or Bpp may be specified here
# Original resolutions only "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

    DefaultDepth 24

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           8
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "2048x1536" "1920x1440" "1800x1440" "1600x1200" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           16
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "2048x1536" "1920x1440" "1800x1440" "1600x1200" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           24
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "2048x1536" "1920x1440" "1800x1440" "1600x1200" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection

EndSection

It seems like it isn't cutting off any of the corners; I went to the "Configure Desktop..." option from right clicking on the desktop, and then went to "Behavior" and selected "Current application's menu bar (Mac OS-style)" under "Menu Bar at Top of Screen".

But also missing is the little icon that clicking on minimized all windows and showed the desktop.

And for some reason, now my Konqueror doesn't work:
