I have 2 GB of RAM on my laptop, however Gentoo recognizes only 1 GB:
Code:
localhost gentoo # cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal:       903196 kB
MemFree:        722836 kB
Buffers:          7632 kB
Cached:          59160 kB
SwapCached:          0 kB
Active:          74760 kB
Inactive:        49384 kB
SwapTotal:     2273188 kB
SwapFree:      2273188 kB
Dirty:             124 kB
Writeback:           0 kB
AnonPages:       57360 kB
Mapped:          21488 kB
Slab:             8028 kB
SReclaimable:     3468 kB
SUnreclaim:       4560 kB
PageTables:        744 kB
NFS_Unstable:        0 kB
Bounce:              0 kB
WritebackTmp:        0 kB
CommitLimit:   2724784 kB
Committed_AS:    95468 kB

HugePages_Surp:      0
Hugepagesize:     4096 kB
DirectMap4k:     45056 kB
DirectMap4M:    872448 kB

But Debian (on another partition) recognizes if correctly:
Code:
MemTotal:        1931236 kB
MemFree:         1238248 kB
Buffers:           17348 kB

Unevictable:           4 kB
Mlocked:               4 kB
SwapTotal:       2273188 kB

Writeback:             0 kB
AnonPages:        139680 kB

PageTables:        12496 kB
NFS_Unstable:          0 kB

WritebackTmp:          0 kB
CommitLimit:     3238804 kB
Committed_AS:     509168 kB
VmallocTotal:   34359738367 kB
VmallocUsed:       50784 kB
VmallocChunk:   34359685883 kB
HugePages_Total:       0
HugePages_Free:        0
HugePages_Rsvd:        0
HugePages_Surp:        0
Hugepagesize:       2048 kB
DirectMap4k:        4544 kB
DirectMap2M:     1959936 kB

Any ideas what might be wrong? Gentoo is x86, Debian is amd64...
What else shall I post?

You need to enable high memory support in your kernel to use > 1GB on a 32-bit machine. The option's on one of the first few pages of the kernel config (I think the one with all the CPU options.)

I've thought that's necessary only when I have over 4 GB... Thanks a lot!
