I've got a G4 sawtooth 450 that I want to use for Linux and OSX. It has two hard disks; a 36GB ultra wide scsi and a small 10GB IDE drive. I know that picking up a cheap newer ATA drive would probably be the quickest, but for now which would be the quickest one? Would I see much difference using the scsi one over the other one?

SCSI one should be quicker. Do you know what kind of drives they are? The scsi one might have a faster spin speed (e.g. 7200rpm).

I believe it is a 7200 RPM drive, IBM DRHS36V.

OSX is installed on the SCSI drive and it's pretty snappy....but really loud.

SCSI drives of thaat vintage tend to be. I used to have 3x 10000rpm U2W drives in my box, sounded like a 747 at takeoff.
