so I installed the driver via portage, then grabbed the drm from git, built according to a wiki... http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon:r6xx_r7xx_branch, modprobed drm and radeon, restarted X and...

...still no xv support (dunno how to test EXA).

I kinda need this... how do I set it up?

xorg.conf

Here's what I use for the device section (much older card though):
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "VideoCard0"
    Driver     "radeon"
    BusID      "PCI:1:0:0"
    Option     "AccelMethod"           "EXA"
    Option     "RenderAccel"           "true"
    Option     "AccelDFS"              "true"
    Option     "ColorTiling"           "on"
    Option     "EnablePageFlip"        "true"
    Option     "DMAForXv"              "true"
    Option     "GARTSize"              "64"
EndSection

nope... those options didn't help :(

Textured video requires CP on R5xx/R6xx/R7xx/IGP

what does that mean in my log?

Xorg.0.log

Try starting X without a xorg.conf and see what happens. 1.5.3 doesn't need one unless you need a specific entry and none of yours look to be necessary.

just make sure acpid and hal are both running when you do.

well, my monitor doesn't have an EDID, but I'll give it a go...

EDIT: displays 1024x768 and doesn't have xv.

No idea, composite maybe?

I think the real problem you're having is:
(WW) RADEON(0): R600 support is mostly incomplete and very experimental
...
(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
(EE) RADEON(0): Acceleration initialization failed

yep - that was the magic line.

CP is part of the kernel module - which wasn't being recognized or anything.

Turns out I forgot to switch branches when I grabbed from git - works great now (tvtime is smoother than before, at least)

I wonder what works with the 2d EXA...
