After having too much trouble to deal with under GRUB legacy, I decided to try out GRUB2. However, it goes into rescue mode every time I boot, and when I type "search boot" or "search /boot" to find my root partition, it says "error: no such device" and outputs nothing more.

Does this mean that my hard drive isn't found in GRUB2? Could this be why GRUB legacy can't boot either?

GAG, NTLDR, and whatever Vista uses all seem to work just fine.

I don't really like the current grub2 ebuild that is in the portage tree. If you want to try the one I am using, I can verify that it works well. :)
grub-9999.ebuild:

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Unsupported Software.

As Gentoo does not support Grub2 yet
