Nope no joke seriously. I turned off the computer went to watch tv now i'm back thought i would check if there was no responses and when i type startx the computer just sits there with a black screen :). In the log i am getting a whole bunch of unresolved symbols. Anyways will figure out what's going on then will continue with the XGL stuff.

Ok still no go as i am getting the same problem  I after i sorted out the kernel thing and made sure that opengl is working and configured correctly. This is the output file i got in /var/tmp/portage/xgl*/temp/. Three sure is a lot of FAILED in there but i have no idea as to what they mean. BTW if it's relevant i have an ATI Radeon 9200 SE card.

I also get this error when it fails

Code:

Call stack:
   ebuild.sh, line 1526: Called dyn_unpack
   ebuild.sh, line 697: Called src_unpack
   xgl-0.0.1_p20060401.ebuild, line 91: Called epatch '/usr/local/trunk/x11-base/xgl/files/mesa-dri-copy-sub-buffer-2.patch'

That patch is no longer needed. It has been added upstream. I commented it out in the ebuild, svn up. You should be using mesa-6.5.0_p20060401.ebuild

RUn the svnup.sh script again and ensure you have the latest.

I think there have been some changes to which patches have been merged into CVS and which are now not needed in the ebuild.

Make sure Mesa/Xgl is installed using todays builds (_p20060401). If not, svnup.sh, and do a "emerge -av mesa xgl". Ensure this would install the latest. If not, then you may need to check your package.{mask|keywords|unmask} file(s) to ensure it will allow install of latest version.

If this is fine, I would also recommend you run the install script from the overlay. When building Xgl, there is a specific order to install packages and sometimes you really need to update/rebuild all packages related to Xgl when updating. Atht e very least, you need to re-emerge mesa, then xgl, then compiz.

Hope this helps.

I seem to be having exactly this same problem, dri_interface.h is owned by mesa, but xf86driproto is touching it.

I did a --sync but it isn't fixing the problem. Trying to emerge xf86driproto on the way to xorg-x11.
