Hi all,

I have been trying to figure this out for the last few months, and I've been reluctant to post because of the gazillions of compiz threads, but I'm at my wit's end.

1) This issue is pretty minor, but still annoying. Whenever I launch a fullscreen application that runs at a small resolution (ex. Starcraft) any window with a larger area than that resolution disappears from the desktop and panels as well. The windows still exist; if I click a link, it will open in firefox, and I'll be able to see the bottom edge of the window at the top of the screen and drag it back into place. I've played around with my window placement options in compizconfig settings but can't seem to figure out any way around this. Any suggestions?

2) This issue is driving me mad. My entire system will randomly "pause": all inputs frozen, sound stops, and the entire system becomes completely unresponsive for 1-5 seconds. It only occurs while compiz is running, so I simply haven't been running compiz. I've been emerging world updates and constantly updating the desktop effects overlay in hopes that a new package will fix this, but no luck and it's been 2 months. With conky, I can see that when this occurs there is a spike in the CPU usage for X.

I'm running kernel version 2.6.27-r8 on amd64 with a dual-head fglrx configuration under gdm (I only run compiz on my primary display). Other than moving to amd64 with my last rebuild, a new hard drive (now my primary drive) is the only other change from before, and my hardware had no issues whatsoever with compiz/X/fglrx. Any suggestions as to how to go about solving this?

Thanks for reading...

For this one, try running compiz with --loose-binding

Thanks gimpel... I gave this a shot, but when I run compiz with that option, my panels and desktop no longer function, and windows can't gain "focus". Maybe this is because I'm only running it on one display? (I've never gotten compiz running on both displays simultaneously).

Hm, no issues here. But I use nvidia cards on all systems.

So maybe someone with ATI can give better tips.

Issue number 2 has been solved after an upgrade to the 2.6.28-r5 kernel :)

For issue number 1:

start ccsm and go to the "workarounds" section.

Enable "Legacy full screen support".

See if that helps.

A valiant effort... wish I had better news, but this didn't solve the problem.

Some good news though- now that the Catalyst 9.3 fglrx driver is in portage (ati-drivers-8.593), windowed apps no longer "flicker" under compiz due to new direct rendering support!
