I read that the 2.6.29 kernel has a fast book option... but I could not find out how to enable it. I'm using the zen-sources 2.6.29-rc8-zen1 kernel.

Any advice?

The option is a kernel parameter, you can find the list of all parameters in Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt

Just add "fastboot" to the kernel parameters on your bootloader.
It is not activated by default because it is not mature yet, do it at your own risk

I've tried it. No problems, but nothing really became faster either :)

maybe shaves a couple of seconds off my boot time; it's now
under 20 seconds from grub to kde4.2 desktop

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Unsupported Software. zen-sources are not in the tree.

This is not zen sources issue. It affects all kernels .29 or later.

It shaved about 2 seconds off my boot time.

Yeah... I thought this had a lot more to do with the .29 kernel than the zen-sources.

Anyhow, I also thought that it made it boot a lot faster... I guess not. No matter. :)

All your answers can be found from reading this thread and its link.
