I think I've had just about enough of trying to do anything useful with a 64-bit kernel and am heavily considering going to 32-bit. Am I going to have to start from scratch and reinstall the whole system or is there a way to convert? I guess it wouldn't be too big of a job to redo the whole thing, but I'd rather not. I'm thinking I probably have to start from scratch. Maybe I can cross-compile from one partition to another? At least that way my server processes could still remain active.

Any ideas?

You still run a 64 bit kernel for both userlands. You can simply make a 32 bit userland chroot on your drive and run 32 bit apps from there, or setup a permanent 32 bit install.
