You could either ask the repository maintainer to add the file (which will also be needed by a future version of portage) or use
Code:
sync_options = --exclude-from=my_exclude_file
where my_exclude_file is an rsync exclude file (see man rsync) that lists the repo_name file.

Thank you very much, this is exactly what I needed :)

    It took me a while to discover the way paludis handles rsync. I just wonder why it doesn't support plain --exclude=pattern as well.

    Worked like a charm.

You can pass options directly through to rsync with --rsync-option (see paludis --list-sync-protocols for details), but yes, --exclude seems widely useful enough to be supported directly. I'll add it for the next version.

How do we know if it's not just them being live builds that get broken on occasion?

Define fails. If it's a permissions error then you need to fix the permissions ${distdir}/svn-src

After every installation of a package paludis reports:
Quote:
* You have 5 unread news items (use 'eselect news' to read)

But eselect news give me no news?
Quote:
scaleo-tux ~ # eselect news list
Unread news items:

Read news items:

. I am new to paludis and I didn't find something about this, what should I do?

Thank you, that work partly. I read the news, but now they are gone. Read news items: (none found)
Is it possible to read them a second time?

i have some creepy problem with paludis. i emerged it. i used the portage2paludis script to merge than i set its use.conf to this (the use flags are the ones copied from make.defaults):
Quote:
# use.conf
# This file created by portage2paludis.bash
*/* acpi alsa arts cairo cdr dbus dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd evo fam firefox gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk hal jpeg kde kerberos ldap mad mikmod mp3 mpeg ogg opengl oss pdf png qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime sdl spell svg tiff truetype vorbis win32codecs unicode X xml xv
*/* INPUT_DEVICES: -* evdev keyboard mouse none
*/* VIDEO_CARDS: -* nvidia none
*/* LINGUAS: -* en_GB en en_US

When i do paludis -i world it starts installing packages i don't need, with useflags i don't use (audit,debug,FreeBSD,djvu and so on). I have set nvidia at video cards, but it wants to install x11-drivers for other cards like via, voodoo, trident ...
What can i do to make it actually use my use.conf :?:

Try changing
Code:
*/* INPUT_DEVICES: -* evdev keyboard mouse none
*/* VIDEO_CARDS: -* nvidia none

to

Code:
*/* INPUT_DEVICES: -* evdev keyboard mouse
*/* VIDEO_CARDS: -* nvidia

edit:
nm that won't help. I'm thinking you might have more stuff in your use.conf, as in you simply added this stuff to the front of the file. But that's just a guess atm.

Though use.defaults would've been set even if you didn't set anything in use.conf btw.

A quick question:

Paludis complains about a number of packages no longer being in the original repository.

(I have a conservative upgrade strategy, only fixing GLSA, installing new software/upgrades I need, and then reconciling library links with reconcilio.)

So I have a number of packages that are old versions, but work perfectly well. Can I get Paludis to stop complaining about them (I don't see any relevant options)? Or, is there a policy/design issue here I'm missing?

You could use --log-level silent, but that's a very bad idea.

Where is it reporting them? If its in the check-security-updates hook, 'paludis -r' emits those warnings by design, afaik, on the basis that if the ebuild does not exists anymore, there's probably a good reason.

I see it:

* When invoking "paludis --report"

* When checking for updates to world, these complaints come as warnings (paraphrasing, "not found in repository 'Gentoo', falling back to 'installed'")

  • I'm doing fresh install and after toolchain upgrade I did paludis -i --dl-reinstall always system. After minor issues I got to point where paludis stopped and I realized it can't compile sys-fs/udev-118-r3.

Is it possible to install kde-4 with paludis? All kde-4 ebuilds seem to be masked by EAPI...
Code:
 # paludis -q kde-meta
* kde-base/kde-meta
    gentoo:            3.5.5 (3.5.6)K 3.5.7 3.5.8 {:3.5} (4.0.0)E (4.0.1)E {:kde-4}

Define fails. If it's a permissions error then you need to fix the permissions ${distdir}/svn-src

i think it's a permission issue and i don't know how to solve it.
it says 'can't open .svn/lock permission denied'

If you're getting permission denied then most likely the svn directory is owned by a different group than paludisbuild or it doesn't allow group writing.
