I've installed/Upgraded Apache, Php, MySQL and Drupal on a fairly elderly system as follows:

Apache: 2.2
Php: 5.2.9
MySQL Ver 8.41 Distrib 5.0.76

I've installed using the following command:

USE="apache2 mysql php pam ssl xml xml2 berkdb innodb jpeg png" emerge dev-db/mysql apache php

However, According to the Drupal Php Installation script, APache is not seeing the MySQL install:

"Your web server does not appear to support any common database types. Check with your hosting provider to see if they offer any databases that Drupal supports."

Pinew00d,

Thanks for the assistance.

Hmmm.

I see that under the configure command that Php was compiled '--without-mysqli'.

Obviously I need to re-emerge Php.

Beforehand, you should clearly decide with whom you are doing your business, with MySQL, or MySQLi ;)

One more thing, if you want to check use flags that the PHP was compiled with, one of ways to do that is to issue command
Code:
emerge -pv php
