Anyone else getting this???

Code:
emerge -av @kde-4.3
emerge: There are no sets to satisfy 'kde-4.3'. The following sets exist:

    de
    de-3.5
    de-4.2

I just resynced kde-testing 2 times...

Also I want to switch to kde from stable portage. But emerg tells me all kde*-meta packages are still masked.
Code:
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "kde-base/kde-meta:4.3" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-base/kde-meta-4.3.0 (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/base/package.mask:
# Alex Alexander <wired@gentoo.org> (03 Aug 2009)
# masking kde 4.3 ebuilds before mass-commit

I am using this kde.keyword file. (using directories instead of one keyword file for the first time, I just copied this into /etc/portage/packages.keywords.)

Upgrading single packages seems to work:
Code:
dionysos package.keywords # emerge -av kate:4.3

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Indeed!

Personaly I do like the new Windows 7 taskbar a lot. Especially the mouseover-preview feature. It really helps when you have multiple instances of, say acrobat reader. one can easily switch between different documents without loosing overview.

This is already implemented in KDE4...

I've got it - someone messed up. I reckon it will be fixed soon if not done already.. I cannot do an emerge avuD @world now because I get the error: non-existent set name ' ' (don't remember the full error but effectively that.) But hopefully will be fixed soon? /jim

There is already an ebuild for fancytasks. Sync the arcon overlay and emerge plasma-fancytasks, you have to use the hardmasked version for KDE >4.2.4

I think it's been around for a while on kde-look.org

apparently there was a problem with portage-2.2_rc37... updating to rc38 fixed it for me

First to clarify things Krog is not exactly talking about the preview feature. The idea of the Kustodian taskbar is that the Taskbar (where open windows are shown) and the "Iconbar" (where you can drop shortcuts to apps) are combined into one single "bar". The same way windows 7's taskbar works.

So I guess you where more replying to my post, than to Krog's.
Well kinda right, that this behavior is implemented, but the difference is in the little details. The windows 7 taskbar is way more convenient, than the actual KDE implementation. Let me explain:

1. When I hover over an open task in KDE, the preview of the windows (as shown in your screenshot) is displayed _way_ to short. Instead of showing the preview for as long as I am still hovering over the selected window, kwin fades my desktop and shows the hovered over window. This defeats the purpose of showing the preview itself. It fades so quickly, I can hardly recon what the preview shows. Also it does not let me choose which of the multiple instances of an app i want to bring to the front, because kwin just chooses the one for itself, when it fades the rest of the desktop.

2. When I actually do want to bring one of my windows to the front, I cannot click on the preview. One has to click on the minimized window in the taskbar, which opens a new list of the windows to choose from. Now, how do I know which one I wanted to choose again? The preview is gone. Oh wait it appears, when I hover over the new list again. It would be so much more convenient, if I could just select my window from the first preview itself.

uff, Hopefully this was understandable enough described :)

Now, dont get me wrong. I really like what new taskbar is trying to achieve. But its just not there yet. So unless this is some rc3 buggy behavior on my system, I am excited to see the Kustodian Taskbar approach, which I like even more because of the windows 7 like combination of "taskbar" and "iconbar".

fixed it for me too. although i find deadmin is quite a funky name ;)

emerge still tells me all kde*-meta packages are masked. does anyone have the same issue?

EDIT: maybe i have to uninstall "@kde-4.3" first?

That does not happen for me. If I hover over a taskbar entry the preview is available immediatly and does not vanish if I move the mouse.

i still had no luck emerging 4.3.0, will check that out asap.

well this is exactly what i tried to explain. Why the list? Why a second preview? After I found my window through the first preview, I simply want to select it. Instead KDE forces me to search my window again in that second preview.

That does not happen for me. If I hover over a taskbar entry the preview is available immediatly and does not vanish if I move the mouse.

i still had no luck emerging 4.3.0, will check that out asap.

It would be so much more convenient, if I could just select my window from the first preview itself.

see this screenshot:

well this is exactly what i tried to explain. Why the list? Why a second preview? After I found my window through the first preview, I simply want to select it. Instead KDE forces me to search my window again in that second preview.

Hmm. That is a good point...
Just thought that you do not know, that there is a preview in the list of grouped windows, therfore the screenshot.

same for me, digikam fails to compile without semantic-desktop flag (and i didn't test it with this flag)

@KD-120RD try stasks, for me it works just how you want it to work.

THIS is really interesting!
is it possible to create an ebuild for that?

yeah, that's a nice one
if this functionality can be merged together with stasks it will be really sweet.

I reported already in this thread that I had problems compiling akonadi-server when installing kde 4.3.61.

Now kde 4.3.63 has become available - that requires a newer version of the akonadi-server that however is not in the overlay.

Quote:
emerge -uDavN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=app-office/akonadi-server-1.2.60" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- app-office/akonadi-server-9999 (masked by: package.mask, missing keyword)
/usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing/profiles/package.mask:
# Robert Förster <Dessa@gmake.de> (12 Aug 2009)
# Autogenerated by regenerate-files, DO NOT EDIT.
# Live packages are masked by default.
# Edit Documentation/package.unmask/kde-live.d/ files instead.
#net-p2p/kmldonkey-9999
# kde-base/kdeartwork-kwin-styles:live <--- not ready yet by upstream

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.3.63" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])

Any idea where I can find this newer version of the akonadi-server

The required version Akonadi-server is available in the overlay : http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/kde.git;a=tree;f=app-office/akonadi-server

Just unmask it and keyword it. ;)

Of course, the live version can be unmasked but I would think (probably wrong) that there should be a "snapshot" version of the akonadi-server also - as I would expect that the kde snapshots are consistent sets and consistency cannot be guaranteed with live versions of programs.
