What's the correct way to install Python 3.1 and not break anything within the system? Couldn't find it in the overlays.

http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/python/wiki
This is the overlay that has python3.0.1
however to install it could cause other issues since there is virtually nothing that uses python3 out there yet

Hi,

No problem if it's installed (properly) in a separated slot.

Regards,
Maxime

it will cause a problem if /usr/bin/python gets relinked to /usr/bin/python3.1 (which should only occur via eselect python set ...)

Hi,

Yes, that why I insisted on the word 'properly slotted' :p
Do not set up python3K as your default python binary and everything will be fine.

Maxime
