You will be unable to see the screen in your guest (windows or linux guests).

Linux guests can simply switch consoles using HOST-F1 then HOST-F7 but Windows users are stuck.

The work around, at this time, is to lower your video memory to 64 MB.

There is a ticket at VirtualBox.org http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4430 for this problem.

I cannot build VirtualBox 3.0.2 from dev-Jokey overlay as it does not build, at the time I wrote this post.

It appears the 'virtualbox-ose-3.0.2-mesa-check.patch' file has not been checked into the subversion repository.

Code:
>>> Failed to emerge app-emulation/virtualbox-ose-3.0.2, Log file:

>>>  '/var/log/emerge/app-emulation:virtualbox-ose-3.0.2:20090711-025542.log'

 *  The die message:

 * If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
 * A complete build log is located at '/var/log/emerge/app-emulation:virtualbox-ose-3.0.2:20090711-025542.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/tmp/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-ose-3.0.2/temp/environment'.
 * This ebuild is from a repository named 'dev-jokey'

There is now a fix for the compile error - noted on this bug report:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=275963

I've just compiled it and run Windows XP guests, and it looks OK so far.
Regards
Ian

Compilation via ebuild now works fine.

The Graphical problem, as identified in the original post, is still present.

Has anybody succeeded in making this work on non-multilib systems? The configure script complains about not finding 32-bit executables.

By multi-lib, I assume you mean 32/64 bit system? (excuse my ignorance).
If so, then my system is 32 bit only and VirtualBox works fine, except for the visual defect, which, I understand, has been fixed in subversion.

Yeah dude. Apparently it only needs a 32-bit compiler for building guest additions. If you pass it USE="-additions" then it won't need it.
