I keep running into this error:

Code:

err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP80.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Cakewalk\\SONAR 8 Studio Edition\\Stretch.ax") not found

I've used winetricks to install vcrun2005, which SAYS it has this file. After doing this, I still get this error and I don't see that DLL in my .wine dir.

So what am I missing?

Did you run winetricks as the same user that you are logged in as?

Here's what I've tried so far, without success:

I found msvcp80.dll on my Windoze partition. It wasn't in system32. There were actually 3 copies of it in

x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6b128700

x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.91_x-ww_0de56c07

and

x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.3053_x-ww_b80fa8ca.

I created these directories in my .wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs directory and copied the dll's from Windoze.

No luck.

I created a WinSxS (case-sensitive) dir and copied everything over from winsxs, but still no luck.

If I click Ignore on all these errors, I eventually get a Windows "regsvr32 has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" error.

I doubt that you can just download that file since it requires other files in the winsxs folder.

Of course you can download it. Just keep getting any DLLs the program is complaining about and stick them in the programs folder till it shuts up.

much better way to put such library as this one is to put them in
Code:
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/

so all aplications will be able to acces them
and then probobly you got to add them in winecfg in library section

I've done all that and the program I'm running still complains about regsvr32 not finding that dll. This is where I'm lost.

try to put that library straight to program folder where is the binary
and run it for example like that
Code:
cd /home/me/apz/ap1/  && WINEPREFIX="/home/me/apz/ap1/" wine apz.exe

Thanks, tgR10. I tried that, and that took care of SOME of the missing DLL problems, but I still end up with the same original missing DLL errors.

Code:

fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.762)

I think the dependend assembly error is relevant, but I don't know how to fix it.

It is relevant. It means that you can not just copy MSVCR80.dll to install it. There are supposed to be registry entries added that link that file to files in the winsxs folder.

I think it would be best to figure out why

Code:
winetricks vcrun2005

did not work. Maybe start with a new clean prefix.

Thanks, John. I agree with you. What exactly does starting with a new clean prefix mean? I was thinking my next step would be to chuck my .wine dir and start over. I don't have anything else I want to keep in there at this point.

That would be a clean prefix.

Wine defaults to use the prefix (folder) .wine

you can delete this folder to clean your default prefix

or use a totally new folder

Code:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine_new wine

and remember to set the WINEPREFIX variable like this each time you run wine if you want to use prefixes other than ~/.wine

Here is some more info about prefixes

Ok, got rid of my .wine dir and ran winetricks vcrun2005. It looks like it worked because a bunch of stuff showed up in windows/winsxs that I know aren't there before running vcrun2005.

But I ran into the same. Problems. Argh. At first, MFC42.DLL was "missing". I got that file and put it in system32, but then I went right back to getting

Code:

fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.762)

El stucko again-o!

These are the same files I've already tried copying to 50 places, without making any difference.

Ok, some new developments. I winetricked vrun6 and vcrun2005, in that order and that seems to take care of missing dll's - BUT!

Code:

err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib L"C:\\Program Files\\Cakewalk\\Shared Plugins\\SpectraFX.dll" failed with error 0
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} not registered

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x10001fa7 (thread 0030), starting debugger...

There was a dialog with "encountered an error, we have to close now, etc., etc., hooray, let's go". Once I clicked "close", I got this:

And up comes the dialog that used to complain about missing dll's, pretty much saying the same thing, except with an exit code of 0xC0000005 instead of 0x1.

What does this mean and what can I do about it?

After this one error, clicking ignore on the dialog lets the installer (this is what I'm trying to run) continue, but actually running the program leads to the entire machine locking up - monitor, mouse and keyboard. The outline of the program window appears but that's it.

I just tried to run my wine program and pipe the console output to a file, but that didn't work. I didn't see anything that screamed ERROR, WILL ROBINSON before my system froze from running this program. It's a MIDI/audio arranging composing program, so possibly it went looking for audio drivers that aren't there and that drove it bonkers.

I defer to someone more experienced than I.

Yeah, vcrun2005 doesn't seem to install properly any more, using winetricks or not.I'm using wine-1.1.26 but an older version didn't seem to work either. Also tried with a fresh wine prefix, but no go.I also thought that the vcrun executable might have been changed recently, but I tried a recent one, and it also failed.

Tried your method of installing vcrun6 first, but this also failed.

EDIT: Figured it out.You need to temporarily set the wine version to win2k.You can do this with "winetricks win2k" (or winecfg).

I don't think that worked for me. Now I get this:

Code:

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library
incorrectly.

In terminal:
Code:

vcrun2005 tends to be quite finicky. You might want to try removing your prefix and starting from scratch again, making sure to set w2k mode before installing vcrun2005.Also I think I may have needed to install vcrun2005sp1 for some of my apps, that could be your problem.

Also, are you aware that wine has it's own official forums? Here: http://forum.winehq.org/

Still not. In fact, now I get the last error I posted ad infinitum, until I do a kill -9 on wine.

Gonna try the wine forums.

Did you try sp1? Or that is what you were commenting on? Sorry if it is.
