Apparently the Hauppauge PVR 250 isn't supported with this patch. It looks like it used lirc_i2c which apparently is not patched into the kernel.

Has anyone had any success with this?

Finally got the module to compile in kernel but can't modprobe. I think for the Hauppauge TV card you need the lirc_gpio module but anyway it errors in dmesg

Code:

lirc_gpio: Unknown symbol lirc_unregister_plugin
lirc_gpio: Unknown symbol lirc_register_plugin

You need to use another patch to get lirc to work with a pvr 250. You need to enable /dev/input/eventX in the kernel and patch it with a patch from bytesex.org. Check the lirc sf list for the direct link. I got it to work, but there are oddities like having to have num lock key on the keyboard to use the number on the remote ;)

This is a patch that includes the lirc_i2c module

[url]http://www.clarkmania.com/~jclark/ [/url]

But I can't get it to work. I'm using the latest mm-sources (2.6.0-test10). It patches fine, but make menuconfig fails when it tries to build the modules. Has anybody had any luck with this patch and the newest kernels?

Yeah, I had it compiled, but I couldn't find the device for it, although when I put in ati usb support too, it created an lirc0 and lirc1 in /dev/lirc/. Getting lirc compiled and using it was another thing though. It gave me errors trying to use either of the devices.

Ok guyz... My first kernel patch. Took the earlier patches and fixed the problems occuring with the 2.6.0-final release, and sorted them out... All the modules compile, and I am sure the lirc_serial module works, because I am using it :)

Anyway, here is a link to the patch

http://www.pixelate.co.za/sschocke/patch-2.6.0-gentoo-lirc.diff

Tested against sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.0

Feedback is welcome :)

Hi, im trying to compile lirc with the module lirc_serial, but when it ends i get a warning with unkown symbol module_refcount, and if i try a modprobe lirc_serial.lko it fails:

lirc_serial: Unkown symbol module_refcount

:(

Any idea?

Im using 2.6.0...

hi,
i also use the patch above and the gentoo-dev-source(2.6.0) and the module (lirc_serial) loads without a problem.

but i can't get lirc to work
the module is loaded:
Code:

bash-2.05b# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
lirc_serial            12608  0
...

i can start lircd
Code:

bash-2.05b# /usr/sbin/lircd -n -d /dev/lirc/lirc0
lircd 0.7.0pre2: lircd(serial) ready
lircd 0.7.0pre2: accepted new client on /dev/lircd       # after runing irexec

but nothing happens if i press a button  .

i copy the config file for my remote from the lirc page to /etc/lircd.conf and make a config file in /home/myuser/.lircrc. both files are old, i use them in my old mandrake system, where lirc work fine.
any ideas?

I'm on gentoo-dev-source (2.6.0) with this patch http://flameeyes.web.ctonet.it/lirc/patch-lirc-20031219.diff.bz2.
I have a PV951TF (ProVideo) TV card.
I can't get /dev/lirc/lirc0.
Code:
root@localhost darkssj # dmesg | grep "lirc"
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
i2c-core.o: driver lirc_i2c registered.
root@localhost darkssj # dmesg | grep "bttv"
bttv: driver version 0.9.12 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:01:07.0, irq: 5, latency: 32, mmio: 0xd8000000
bttv0: using: ProVideo PV951 [card=42,insmod option]
bttv0: using tuner=1
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA9875 @ 0xb0... not found

I have the same problem, no /dev/lirc or /dev/lirc/lirc0 are created.
So I thought maybe I could create one by myself, but that didn't make any sense. Nothing happens when I press the buttons on my remote-control.

I used "mknod /dev/lirc c 61 0" to do that, but I don't know if it's right...

I've got ir remote working with my hauppage tv card. I downloaded the patches from bytesex.org and applied them. After boot loaded ir-kbd-* modules (plus the "evdev" module, then remote appears to /dev/input/eventX), now the remote is "kinda" attached to my keyboard so I don't need to use lirc daemon anymore. I just attached these "remote" events to keyboard events with xmodmap.

If you want to use lirc daemon, you have to use 0.7.0pre2 or some cvs version and compile new input driver in. I haven't tested this yet..

Yay! Now it works for me! :)

And I've written a small howto which you can find at: http://www.home.no/zkronk/lirc.html

To fix the problem:

lirc_serial: Unkown symbol module_refcount

Activate in kernel config all the options "Loadable module support"

[*] Enable loadable module support
[*] Module unloading
[*] Forced module unloading
[*] Module versioning support (EXPERIMENTAL)
[*] Automatic kernel module loading

I can't get any /dev/lirc or /dev/lirc/lirc0, I think that this is a problem with i2c. Does anyone have a PV951?
