So, I've just burnt myself a minimal installation disk (2008.0)

And I place it into my mac's disk tray, press C during boot to start the installation process. However on the stage where I press "enter" to begin the boot process, the screen does not display anything. I pressed "C" on the keyboard, I can hear it do something, I was expecting a gentoo boot logo, with a small text explaining what the boot options were, but it just keeps on flickering on and off, does not display anything.

I tried typing: apple video=ofonly or apply video=radeonfb, to no avail.

Help Please!!
Thanks
Chris

That cd has several kernels. I think it boots the G5 kernel by default. You want the ppc32 kernel. So try typing ppc32 and then pressing enter

I have the same or similar machine. To see which kernels are available once the cd boots, hit the tab key. You will see as nixnut says a G5 kernel and a ppc32.

Type ppc32 and you are good to go. You could also add whatever other options after if you want. I typically will boot as ppc32 docache, unmount the cd and not worry about it again.

If you have any other questions, please ask.
